Tune in the news today and you will hear the airwaves dominated by the phrase, "Putting lipstick on a pig." Is it any wonder that people the world over are laughing at us?

In the 1980's when the attack politicians were still learning how to use the media our stupidity could fly under the radar of the world outside our country. In the 1990's everything changed. The internet began to come of age and more suddenly than politicians understood everything was viewable by the entire world providing they were on the net.

But, both major political parties failed to pay attention. They kept on refining their attack tactics and became quite proficient. They realized that by pounding the airwaves with constant drivel they could divert our attention from the important issues of the day. In doing so they began the great dumbing down of america.

So we find ourselves here in 2008. Perhaps one of the most important elections in recent history is looming. And today, all we hear about is the pig. Also today, President Bush announced that we would pull very few troops from iraq and put a token force into Afghanistan. We've begun to evacuate large parts of Texas in advance of a major hurricane which could effect the oil rigs in the gulf and increase prices at the pump. Yet among all these issues we are distracted by the pig.

Is it any wonder that folks around the globe think we are fools? If you were to put yourself into the shoes of an everyday person in Poland you might find yourself wondering if NATO really would protect you from Russian aggression. So you go to the internet and call up CNN. There's the pig. Go to MSNBC - the pig. Huffington, CBS, NBC, ABC and all you find is the pig. You wonder what are these crazy americans thinking about? And you lose respect for the country that you used to look to for guidance.

So when the world is in need of clear thought and a beacon of freedom where do we find ourselves? Once again in the pig trough. Maybe we don't deserve their respect anymore.
