Thirteen years ago, my wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage III. She was operated on one week later, and after chemotherapy, was cancer free. Then three and a half years later, she had a recurrence. This time it was so severe, she told me to remarry so that our daughter would have a mommy, so convinced she was that death was near. After more chemotherapy, she was once again declared cancer free.
The third time around, the cancer was discovered early. This meant less chemo, no hair loss, and in a month she will be will be cancer free for five years, a benchmark of being completely and irrevocably free of this monstrous disease.
Throughout this ordeal, Barbara had health insurance that covered her chemo, post chemo treatment, blood tests, and pharmaceuticals. Without coverage, she would be dead. She would be dead a month after the first diagnosis.
Tens of thousands of people have died because their provider denied them coverage. Tens of millions of people are a day away from a death sentence because they have no coverage at all.
I thought of this when I saw GOP flunky Michael Steele tell a woman that she spoke out a town hall meeting about her mother's cancer to get an appearance on television, and turned her back on her after he said it.
I thought about it when a woman cried about her medical dilemma, and Senator(and doctor!) Tom Coburn told her to go to neighbors for help with her six figure medical problems.
I thought of Barbara when a woman was booed for discussing her medical dilemma, and one of the dolts booing her said that her being wheelchair bound didn't exclude her from being booed. Being a dimwit lout evidently doesn't stop you FROM booing, either.
If you agree with the last three people I cited, you are a lousy American, a heartless bully, and a crude -- well, let's see -- moron. You are stupid enough to be lied to and not check the facts. You are racist enough to despise Obama because of skin color. Finally, you are dogmatically inclined enough to believe everything you hear without checking the facts. Please, on behalf of decent people everywhere, do not -- repeat, do not -- reproduce.
