Samantha’s policy expertise lies with issues surrounding working families in the United States, the Family and Medical Leave Act, comparative family policies in the international community, and low-income families in the United States. Currently, Samantha is researching and analyzing appellate court cases involving the current Family and Medical Leave Act from 2000 to the present. She is planning on writing her Senior Honors Thesis on the analysis and breakdown of these cases. Samantha has also written a policy expansion for the FMLA, as well as a plan to implement this program in private businesses.

Samantha Sherwood is a Senior Honors Scholar from the University of Connecticut. She is a Human Development and Family Studies major and a Political Science minor. Samantha’s interest and research lies in public policy related to families in the United States. Samantha is currently the President of the UConn Honors Council and she sits on the Board of Directors for the National Collegiate Honors Council. She co-authored a policy for expanding FMLA in the Roosevelt 25 Ideas Series on Working Families
