SPI was started in 2004 by designers Sarah Shetter and Alison Palevsky. It is founded on the ideal that modernism can be successfully combined with comfort and livability.

The two designers, who met as undergraduates at the University of Southern California, share a design aesthetic that mixes the California lifestyle with both ancient and modern traditions. Ms. Palevsky received training from UCLA's interior design/architecture program. Ms. Shetter holds a Master of Science degree in interior design from the Pratt Institute in New York.

SPI oversees all phases of a project, including demolition/remodel plans, color choices, custom furnishings and light fixtures, specialized wall and floor finishing, and art selection and installation. With a clear focus on the requirements of the client, the two partners bring professionalism and clarity to the complex task of designing interior spaces for individual needs. Together, they create environments of lasting quality.

SPI has been published in Architectural Digest (April 2006), Shelter Interiors (September 2006 and March 2007), California Home + Design (July 2006), The LA Times (August 2006), Interior Design Magazine (August 2006), LA Confidential (Nov-Dec 2006), Mexican Architectural Digest (July 2006), Tim Street-Porter’s Casa Mexicana (2006), and Variety (January 2006).
