I am a family therapist, and therapists are supposed to know how to stay calm, even in crisis. This in nightmare time for everyone! We are all in the same boat of racing hearts, bitten nails, and general terror when we are contemplating the possibility of moving to "wherever " if the worse should happen. But there are a few tricks that work. 1. Talk with someone you trust, if that person can be calm while you vent. Two in the same anxiety boat just makes the panic worse, so when necessary breathe in and out, and take turns. 2. Be productive by involving yourself in this election in any and every way that your time permits. (If you cannot sleep, the so called experts on TV will make you more nervous. So avoid TV (other than old movies) and write letters to the editor to every newspaper and magazine you can think of, online and otherwise.) 3. Make time for diversion that has nothing to do with politics: movies, sports, working out, sex.......4. And remember, it is almost over.....and my gut tells me that all will be well.
