Hillary, War with Iran is No Laughing Matter

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Hillary, I'm glad to see you got a good laugh when I confronted you during last week's debate over your vote calling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRG) a terrorist organization. The American public finally got to see your cavalier attitude toward our march to war. Your vote however is no laughing matter.

By labeling the IRG a terrorist organization, the Democratic-controlled congress has impeded our ability to negotiate with a huge portion of the Iranian government. The IRG is a 125,000-person organization with ties to every power base in Iran. The IRG is also admired by a vast potion of the Iranian people for its heroic stand against Saddam Hussein's invasion during the Iran-Iraq War. Mohammad Khatami, the former reformist president of Iran, warned the United States not to label the IRG a terrorist organization because doing so would preclude any diplomatic settlement of our differences.

While I'm sure your vote plays well with the hawks and military contractors who support your campaign, it is the height of irresponsibility. Like with Iraq in 2002, elements in our government have already decided to attack Iran and are now trying to "sell it." Last week, Congress gave the warmongers a big gift. (Note to Congressional Dems: You were elected to stop a war, not start a new one!)

Hillary, war with Iran will have devastating consequences for all Americans.

The Iranians are sure to respond with strikes at Americans at home and abroad. Imagine a dozen 9/11s. Is that something to laugh about?

The Iranian navy will intercept oil shipments through the Persian Gulf that fuel the European economies. Oil prices will skyrocket above $150 and the global economy will fall into a worldwide depression. Will you be amused when millions of Americans lose their jobs?

Will you chuckle when the Shiites in Saudi Arabia and the other oil states rise up and destabilize our allies in the Persian Gulf?

A war with Iran will not be contained. It's easy to imagine a "Guns of August" scenario that draws in Israel, Saudi Arabia and potentially Pakistan, India, Russia, and China. Hillary, a potential Third World War is no crackpot fantasy, and it's no joke.

Based on the questions during Wednesday's presidential debate, I suspect the mainstream media isn't interested in a serious discussion about this impending crisis. Tim Russert's questions had us spending more time on smoking, teenage drinking and Red Sox versus Yankees than on Iran. But this crisis is real and it's time to take it seriously before it's too late.

Of course she'll chuckle, cavalierly and condescendingly. After all, isn't the member of a dynasty entitled to a little chuckle at the peasants' expense, every now and then?
What does it matter if the blood of a few thousand Americans, or a few hundred thousand Iraqis is spilled, if it can help propel Billary, Inc. to the white house for another 8 years?

Ha! Billary.... I call her the Hilldabeast. Senator Gravel is right to challenge this new "belly laugh" strategy everyone has noticed. What really gives her the credibility to be President? Not much. But that didn't stop shrub. It is a beauty contest after all.

It's all fun and games until somebody drops a nuclear weapon.

Is there no stopping this absolute insanity? How much longer can the America sleepwalk through dissaster? Each new development convinces me that we are on a path where madness leads and there is nothing to turn us back toward the light. Just one ounce of sense, and a modicum of intelligence, with a dash of knowledge would help a great deal. I am not certain that even these minimal qualifications can get someone elected in this dark age.

Unfortunately, it is the prevailing symptom of the current madness that the war drum beaters get the most attention and respect from the ignorant masses.
We have reached a new low in the American experiment, one rivaling the worst Jerry Springer audience of all time.
Corporate execs couldn't be happier.

Peace doesn't sell. Not to the brainwashed electorate, and certainly not to the profitminded militarists.

It is a very dangerous path we're on.

Why does eveyone think Arabs are our Friends and Shiites are our Enemys.
The Arabs call Americans their "WHITE SLAVES" because of our addiction to oil.
What do the SHIITES call us Americans.
Think about that.
MOVIES for years have been PRE PROGRAMMING PEOPLE TO HATE SHIITES and ARABS.
Who decided to make them our emeny?
Was it Americans who put the SHAQ in office in Iran, was it Americans who put Sadam in power, what elese has America done that was so great in the middle east?

Hillary's vote for Jyle/Liebermand should be the final straw.

The Dems should shoot for an Edwards/Obamma or Edwards/Richardson ticket and send Hillary home. She has not been listening to Bill, from the manner in which she has been voting and acting.

Senator--

My understanding from other bloggers on HuffPo who have a better grasp of just how congress works, is that it takes only 41 votes to stop any bill from going forward.

This technique is apparently used constantly by the Republicans--filibuster.

Yet members of your party abandoned the American people twice in the space of one week--on the Kyl/Lieberman thing, and on the MoveOn vote, as well.

With the first they have effectively said, "Yes we believe your intel Mr. President--Again!"

You know, somebody once pointed out that to become a doctor, lawyer, cpa, teacher, or bus driver, you had to pass a test. But anyone can run for Congress.

And on the second issue, they voted against the very Constitution they swore to uphold. Proving the 1st Amendment allows anybody to say just about anything, no matter how stupid it is. And they claim Dubya is dumb...

You know why, Senator, Hillary can get away with those votes?

Because there is no accountability. They will act above the law, take us to war, bankrupt the American people for their own gain, and not care.

And in one hundred years,Bill Clinton and George Bush will be footnotes in history, like Taft and Harding; And Hillary, not even that. And they won't care about that either.

Where Are Even Forty One! Forty one to invest this Congress with accountability.

Hillary laughs because the spoiled, the entitled, the narcissistic don't care. And they know they can laugh--at us, at you, all the way to the bank.

Sen. Gravel, I must say you provided a few laughs the first debate by the second debate I thought you should drop out.

I have taken an about face since then and want to congratulate you on taking a stand again Sen. Clinton's Iran vote.

I want to ask that you keep them honest. I agree with your position that 18year old in the military should be able to drink. It is common sense that if someone is old enough to kill for his/her country then they should be able to drink.

I don't know where you come come down on the "don't ask;don't tell" policy. I want to tell you it works. While I was in not too long ago, we took showers together with no privacy. I did not mind that too much because I considered my fellow marines brothers.

I would be uncomfortable if I knew one was gay. I would not want to go shower knowing he could be staring with different thought running through his head. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it is, then dividers need to be installed in the showers.

That doesn't make any sense. Who in their right mind would want a bunch of drunken killers wandering about?

Are you suggesting that no military personnel be allowed to drink alcoholic beverages at all ever at any age, or are you only worried about being murdered by young people?

Senator Gravel:

Thank you sir for your efforts on our behalf. It is so very sad to witness the destruction of our country by this criminal administration and traitorous congress. It appears there is nothing to be done to prevent the intentional setting in motion of world wide war and depression. The anger, frustration and sorrow that we feel now is nothing to the hardships that we will endure in the coming years. Thank you again sir, for your courage and for all that you do.

The lying media is afraid of Mike and Dennis. Hmmm.

I use that as my template. The more the MSM disregards the candidate, the more I will investigate them.

Sen Gravel--

The two wars we have, the coming conflict with Iran and our teetering economy will propel this country and the world into a second Depression.

IMHO, that has been the Bush family's plan since day one. How better to consolidate his unconstitutional powers, than by destroying the working class; as they do with their deficits, offshoring of jobs, attacks on our unions, and the looming mortgage debacle.

Hillary (and Bill) gave us NAFTA, and Hillary voted for and continues to support US armed aggression in the middle east, while doing nothing to protect homeowners, control the price of oil, or fulfill the promises the Democratic party made to us in 2006.

You are right: It is no laughing matter!

Umm...and what do you think the point of the vote was?

and

"Tim Russert's questions had us spending more time on smoking, teenage drinking and Red Sox versus Yankees than on Iran. "

Senator, that's his job - to distract us and feed us lies verbatim from the White House, and to avoid any real news.

That's the role the Fourth Estate now plays in our nation, sir.

As for Hillary, she's a Republican in Dems clothing. It's Republican versus Republican in 2008. Don't kid yourself.

Finally, you wrote:

"Like with Iraq in 2002, elements in our government have already decided to attack Iran and are now trying to "sell it."

That's where Hillary comes in. The White House needed a salesperson among the most prominent Democrats. What better than co-opting the most prominent Dem of them all?

I wish there were more senators like you and more networks who played Democracy Now. That show has actual news and investigative reporting. CNN should be airing it twice daily, and so should FOX. If FOX wants to be fair and balanced they should run DN, Free Speech Radio News, and Counterspin twice daily each.

I am proud to state that it has been about six years since I watched FOX and it is one of my life's goals to never ever watch it again. Now that's peace of mind.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. I don't watch FOX for the same reason I don't do dangerous drugs - because I don't want to destroy my mind.

It's not lost on me that their biggest celebrities are druggies. They have to be drugged to say the stuff they do.

Oh that's bright, you'd both be better off just smoking a little herb.

Write in George Soros' name on your ballots. That's what it all about.

Hillary is looking better and better to me, even if I do know she is a liar. But, maybe not the biggest liar running.

That good earthy laugh she had for 5 different Sunday Morning Talk Shows threw them all off their guard. For the first time, I enjoyed her and thought about her as a candidate and possible President, as well as a gutsy woman.
She just might be winning me over.

Frightened people think of conspiracy theories. Brave people laugh at them.

What does the imminent outbreak of World War III have to do with whether Brittany gets drunk and vomits?

"Hillary, I'm glad to see you got a good laugh over your vote calling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization"

How does the fact that the Democrat’s "leading" Presidential candidate is flippant about helping to usher in the demise of Western Civilization as we know it affect OJ's legal problems?

Other than Fox "News" beating the drums for War with Iran there isn't much media scrutiny of Bush and Cheney's waltzing toward Armageddon. In the run up to the Iraq catastrophe the Media was falling all over themselves trying to get “embedded” on the first Humvee to Baghdad. I wonder if they’ll elbow each other out of the way to report on the first bunker busters to hit Tehran? It makes you wonder if we really should mention this group of nattering nabobs in the Constitution.

I don't get the chuckling. The multiple and extended duty troops, will be caught in the the middle. The other countries you mentioned, may very well get involved.

I can see Hillary chuckling, while we witness the deaths of millions.

Sen. gravel,Thanks for tryig to keep the dialogue honest. The only problem is that no one is honest. Why should they be when the $ is oh, so good. We are heading for world wide depression and no one in either party cares. The American people and peoples around the word are doomed. Soup lines are just around the corner.
