I'm glad to see John Edwards and Barack Obama have finally begun to upbraid Hillary Clinton for going along with Bush's impending attack on Iran. We presidential candidates must keep raising this story because the mainstream media is not doing its job, once again. Two weeks ago, Seymour Hersh exposed the Pentagon's plans to attack Iran, but the MSM failed to follow up with a sustained inquiry. We presidential candidates must pick up the slack and constantly alert the American public that Bush, Clinton and the go-along Congressional Dems are leading us into another disastrous war.
Despite what Hillary claims, Congress gave Bush the green light to attack Iran when they labeled the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRG) a terrorist organization. Bush can now attack the IRG as a counter-terrorism measure. All he needs is a "Gulf of Tonkin incident" in Iraq that can be tied to the IRG, and he will begin bombing IRG facilities in Iran. Of course Bush will disregard Hillary's resolution demanding he check with Congress before attacking Iran. No president since James Polk has felt the need to check with Congress before "defending" American troops.
What makes Hillary believe a congressional resolution will prevent Bush from doing anything? A war on Iran has been a neocon dream for decades and Bush sees himself as a modern-day messiah ridding the world of evil-doers. Throughout his presidency, Bush has consistently disregarded checks and balances. He defied a Supreme Court decision banning torture simply by ordering his Justice Department to secretly issue a go-ahead. (The MSM also dropped this story.)
After Bush launches the planned strikes on the IRG, Iran will hit our naval forces in the Persian Gulf and our troops in Iraq. Within an afternoon, we will be at war. Bush might later ask our rubberstamp Congress for a show of support. But by then any opposition will be moot. The Iranian navy will cut the oil supply of the European economies and a worldwide depression will hit American markets. Other regional powers, including Saudi Arabia and Israel, might be drawn into the war. Within weeks tens of thousands will be dead and that's only the beginning.
We presidential candidates must do our best to avoid this tragedy by bringing it up constantly. And it's not enough for my fellow candidates just to challenge Bush and Hillary out on the stump. They must join me in challenging her directly during the debates.
If we immediately and consistently inform the American public what their government is up to, I believe we have a shot at stopping this war. Without any sort of public outcry, we are most certainly heading for disaster.

Once again Senator Gravel shows he knows the language of Washington and what's really going on.
Mike Gravel is a sincere man. He is the only one who speaks openly about what is going on and behaves like a real person. More importantly, he treats Americans like real people and doesn't treat politics like a game to be won by the most deceptive tactics and propaganda. I first read about him in GOOD Magazine. Check it out, it is a really worthwhile read (except the latest issue doesn't interest me much).
I disagree with Gravel on one issue though. He doesn't believe in Kucinich's resolution to impeach dumbass Cheney. He says he will be introducing a piece of legislation that addresses that issue differently. I'm not sure what plans he has but I would like him to explain himself because I want those "evil-doers" in the Bush admin to be punish severly.
Right after you called her on her vote for Lieberman's war in Iran, Clinton became a co-sponsor of James Webb's S.759, which purports to require the Resident to ask the Congress' permission to go to war with Iran.
Except that it doesn't.
Except that it AUTHORIZES the Resident to go to war with Iran.
Section (a) blows the smoke, section (b) opens the loop, whole :
(b) Exceptions- The prohibition in subsection (a) shall not apply with respect to military operations or activities as follows:
(1) Military operations or activities to directly repel an attack launched from within the territory of Iran.
(2) Military operations or activities to directly thwart an imminent attack to be launched from within the territory of Iran.
(3) Military operations or activities in hot pursuit of forces engaged outside the territory of Iran who thereafter enter into Iran.
(4) Military operations or activities connected with the intelligence or intelligence-related activities of the United States Government.
It is exactly as Mike says.
They're going to stage a Gulf of Tonkin type "attack" and then Webb's Navy will hurl its Tomahawks while Webb and Clinton and Bush and Cheney exchange high-fives at the onset of WW III.
If you're waiting to hear about this from the Demoblican candidates or the Top Down Media Channels you'll be awakened by the sounds of nuclear explosions in Iran before that happens.
Turn Off your TV.
Turn On the Bottom Up Media Channels.
Drop Out of the apathetic mass which chants that "nothing can be done."
The one who wins on election day is the one with the most votes. None of this nightmare can happen unless you vote for it. You did it 2000 and 2004, don't do it again in 2008. Work and vote for Mike Gravel. Something can be done and you can do it.
Thank you for sharing more of your international relations insights, and your wisdom, Senator. I look forward to more of your blogs. Be well, sir.
The thing is-- We need MORE of Mike Gravel, here, on tv, in debates---
Because when you hear what he has to say, his sincerity, honesty, integrity, well, it is a big difference from what America has become accustomed to.
And if you compare TheTruth to the slogans, rhetoric, doublespeak, and non-specific
gobble d'gook of of other politicians you can begin to see the difference between TRUTH and contrived speech-manipulative marketing controlling and psychologically designed to behavioristically control you in a very BF Skinner-ish way.
Look up Skinner and behaviorism, thats part of what the country/corporation is using on you.
Mike Gravel and a few others are talking honestly, we need more more more until ALL people can recognize the difference.
Mike Gravel, you are refreshing and have courage. Please continue to be a thorn in their complacent sides!
Mike you are the man. This was a great blog post. Good luck with the campaign.
Mike Gravel is a light unto my path. He speaks the truth.
You hit the nail on the head, as usual Mike. I'm confused when I'm watching the debates lately -- if I didn't know the players I often wouldn't be sure which party I was watching. Keep hammering at them, Mike! We appreciate the hell out of you!
Once again, Mike is right on the money.
Do not give up hope that he can win. Call me an idealist, but I refuse to succumb to the current rotten system-- support who you think is best, not who has the best chance of winning.
Thank you so very much Mike Gravel for stepping up and speaking out! I am appalled by the war machine we are caught in!
It seems that there is a force at work trying to profit from War. This is tyrannical capitalism!!
The common sense and mature approach of Mike Gravel is just what this beautiful country, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA needs!! We need change-- LET CHANGE PREVAIL. MIKE GRAVEL YOU HAVE MY VOTE!
I want good and peaceful sense to prevail!!! Peace! Peace! Peace!

Gravel is a proven leader for the people.
We need to do everything we can to make sure he gets elected.
If I have to write in Mike Gravel's name in order to
cast my vote for him as our next President of the
United States, I will do so. I will continue talking
about his candidacy until it becomes a reality. He
will be a great President, I agree.
I think that Senator Gravel truly understands how
Gandhi helped people create the force of truth (or to
paraphrase the Senator's own words, "bringing truth to power") to break free of the British empire. In the
absence of fearless and loving leadership America has
become an imperial power. In my lifetime I have
experienced the truth of Gandhi's life and of Cicero's
words, used by Mike Gravel in his campaign, that
"freedom is participation in power."
Mike Gravel is a genuine human being. His leadership
can provide a way for Americans and people throughout the Earth to connect responsibly as active world citizens. His efforts bring honor to life and to all
of us who love life.
If need be, I will be writing him in as well.
Mike, I can't imagine Obama joining with you on anything. He puts you down, saying you are always negative, and he is Mr.Positive.
True, it's mainstream rubbish that he pulls. They love to spin Sen. Gravel as the cranky man, when he's actually facing the issues and offering spin-free answers.
Mike- you are right about Hilary, right about we are going to war at the next slightest excuse, and the mainstream media is NOT doing its job.
Thank you for keeping up the fight for the truth to get out there.
I hope you do become our next president. That is, if the insane emperor actually steps aside when the appointed time comes, or if Al Gore will devote some of his talents in 'annulment' of the current administration- including nullifying all of the non-constitutional changes made during this 'presidency'.
Basis? fraud and insanity.
