My first reaction to the President's speech is that we didn't hear anything new, and we didn't get any real answers. There was nothing new about how to finish the military mission in Iraq, and the explanations about the President's illegal program to spy on the American people were inadequate. And on the tough issues facing working families, there weren't any real solutions for out-of-control health care costs, or on American jobs getting shipped overseas. That's what Americans are facing right now, and the President needed to address these problems head-on for this speech to be relevant. But the President just repeated his pattern of insisting that we should trust his leadership, while he takes a pass on the tough issues.
