FL-Sen-GOP: Jeb Bush Sons Oppose Charlie Crist

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

{First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate Guru.}

Republican former Governor Jeb Bush, who remains a popular figure among Florida Republicans, has two sons, George P. and Jeb Jr.. Back in February, George P. Bush offered a stinging rebuke of current Gov. and 2010 Senate candidate Charlie Crist's lack of conservative cred:

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) is only a "light" version of a Democrat, former Gov. Jeb Bush's (R) son claimed Saturday.

"There's some in our party that want to assume that government is the answer to all of our problems," Bush said at a meeting of young Republicans, as reported by the Orlando News. "You know who I'm talking about," he added, referencing Crist.

After the speech, Bush said Crist is perhaps becoming more of a "D light" politician, not adequately in line with Republican politics.

Fast forward three months and Jeb Bush's other son, Jeb Jr., announces his endorsement of Charlie Crist's 2010 Republican Senate primary opponent, former state House Speaker Marco Rubio:

Today I would like to let you know that I will be enthusiastically supporting my friend Marco Rubio for his bid for the United States Senate.

Florida and our country are at a crossroads. Not only in our economic life, but in who we are as Republicans. ...

With Marco, we have a great opportunity to elect a true conservative and a greater obligation to elect a man of principle. ...

If you can make a donation today to keep this effort going it will go a long way to bring back common sense and a return to conservative principles in Washington.

According to Jeb Jr., Republicans are at a "crossroads" over their identity and Rubio is the only "true conservative" in the race who can return "conservative principles" to Washington. Read: Charlie Crist does not represent the Republican Party.

I can't imagine that these statements from Jeb's boys go out without Daddy Jeb's blessing. Make no mistake, former Governor Jeb Bush does not want his gubernatorial successor to win the Republican nomination for Senate. Further, couple the support of Jeb's boys for Rubio with the recent endorsement of Mike Huckabee for Rubio and we see the underdog picking up steam. Anybody rushing to anoint Charlie Crist as Florida's next Senator better slow down. Conservatives still run the GOP, and Charlie Crist simply isn't up to snuff.

The GOP continues to crash and burn while the Bush family, together with Rush and Hannity, continue to pour the lighter fluid!

Go Dems '10.

As a Floridian, and one who's child is in the Fl public school system that Jeb ruined, I will say that anything his sons or Mark Rubio have to say is irrelevant. And as for Crist? He has done not one thing to benefit this state. Next year Floridians better remember the following:
The vote for lower property taxes was put on the ballot against the protests of law enforcement and teachers. 1 year later? Teachers by the thousands and cops by the hundreds being laid off. What did Crist say in that first year when asked by local tv station what his response was to the layoffs? He said it wasnt happening.,
The FCAT is THE most assinine way of testing children which ever existed and he WON'T revisit it to change it. Teachers hate it, parents hate it and children and schools suffer because of it.
He has not tried to even begin to change the status quo in our state education system.
Light rail? Not one peep from Crist and it went down in flames.
I sent him an email with some suggestions and asked for a meeting. Guess what I started receiving in my spam mail? Donation requests.

Floridians better vote Democrat all the way in 2010 or we will continue to suffer at the hands of imbeciles.

You are so right! jr is right about 1 thing, Florida is at a crossroad, we have been slipping lower and lower, in all categories. We need tax reform, why do those buying yachts not pay sales tax???? We need water reform...right now a Gov appointed board decides the fate of Florida's main source of drinking water, giving carte blanche to bottlers to pull hundreds of millions of gallons of drinking water daily, while citizens are told to take 10 minute showers and water their grass 1 or twice a week. Yes, we are at a crossroad. We have had Repug dominance too long and are suffering so the wealthy, those in the top2%, can enjoy massive tax cuts at the expense of Floridians middle class citizens.

Hello, neighbor. I'm from St-Pete, and I totally agree with your comments. But 2010 could see the end of the Empire. When you see Adam Putnam giving up his (secured) seat in Congress, but running as a public servant (agriculture), well, it speaks volumes.

Here in Florida, it's been known for a long time that George P. was the heir apparent to the Bush political apparatus. Since GWB has basically ruined Jeb Sr.'s chances for the White House (thank the Lord!), George P. is now the anointed one. How successful he will be depends on the length of voters' memories and when he decides to run for public office. Supporting Marco Rubio means that all the Cuban-American voters over 60 who are registered Republicans will be voting for George P. when the time comes!

Maybe Rubio should get the nomination; then we'll be assured a Democratic win.
