Famously, the effort failed. Perhaps that's why Oregon Senator Gordon Smith is embracing a fully different tactic: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGDJijGCeO4">running ads that compare himself <i>to</i> the Democratic presidential nominee</a>.</p>
