These various inquisitions gave me a chance to organize conflicting thoughts--which was fortunate, for the <i>Washington Post</i>'s "Outlook" section asked me to contribute a piece on this question. <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/05/AR2008120502602.html" target="new">The article</a> will appear on the front page of the section on Sunday.
