Would McCain Rather Win Than Catch bin Laden?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

On today's Situation Room, when Wolf Blitzer asked him about his vow to catch Osama bin Laden, John Mccain said, "Well, I'm not gonna telegraph a lot of the things that I'm gonna do, because then it might compromise our ability to do so. But look, I know the area. I've been there. I know war. I know how to win wars. And I know how to improve our capabilities so that we will capture Osama bin Laden...I know how to do it."

Which begs four obvious questions:

1) Is John McCain privy to some intelligence or strategy that would better our chances of capturing bin Laden?

2) If so, why hasn't he shared this information with the current administration?

3) Would he rather win the election than see bin Laden captured?

4) Also, exactly which war(s) has he won?

Would somebody in the MSM please...PLEASE ask him any/all of these?! Please? Seriously -- how many stupid things does this guy get to say before somebody with a microphone calls him on it?

It would appear to me that neither Mr. Grahame-Smith, nor any of the commentors above have any military experience and don't understand a chain of command or a commander's perogative. What McCain was saying is that he has his ideas about how to capture bin-Ladin, but right now he is not the Commander-in-Chief so he cannot direct the troops to carry out his plans. I'm sure he has offered his ideas to the President and many generals, but there are of course many different defensible positions about how to go about capturing bin-Ladin. If the President doesn't agree with McCain then McCain's ideas are not put into practice. McCain is saying that when I am President I will direct my ideas be used.

Give me a break. McCain was a fighter pilot, not a Navy Seal. He has no better ideas on how to capture Bin Laden than the next guy you meet on the street. The only thing McCain appears to be an expert in is bluster and bullshit.

Considering his placement in his graduating class I'm sure that his idea is a real winner.
This is a confused, desperate old man that wants to be president.
Question is......are we gonna wake up or are we gonna buy this bush it.

Not much of a fighter pilot either. He supposedly crashed 2 planes before being shot down and 2 more after he was released and rejoined the Navy for a total of 5 over his career.

Exactly right knighthowl! If it can't be done from 22,000 feet, McCain is not the right guy for the mission. For that matter, with five crashes on his record, maybe that's not even such a great idea!

So, in other words, he cannot even get his own party's president to listen to him on bin laden. He has that little stature with them, huh? Sounds like a great choice for prez to me. I thought he "knows how to win wars!"

One question that was left out. How many more brave soldiers must die or be severely wounded before Mr McCain reveals this great secret on how to catch Bin Laden?

And how much longer will we let him plan another terrorist attack before the great secret is revealed? I hope he comes up with the secret before it's too late. This is just more McCain bs. He is so much like Bush, who hasn't done much to catch Bin Laden. Why would we trust McSame with catching Bin Laden? He has always been about the war in Iraq and not about hunting down Bin Laden.

well, Mc-Cain has an acceptable daily death toll based on his decision to continue the Iraq war.

Bob Herbert wrote an interesting column for Saturday asking the same thing in the New York Times. That it seems with all his gaffes, his accusing a United States Senator running for President of treason, his infamous temper, ect., and that rather then say that it's Obama we don't really know, shouldn't the media also ask the same of McCain instead of giving him a free pass on everything.

One thing that Bob states at the end of his article "a straight talking"? McCain has not said one thing these past few weeks that come close to being straight talking.

OBL has been dead since approximately end of 2001. Even Benezir (sp?) Bhutto spoke rather casually about his murder shortly before she was assassinated and nobody seemed to pick up on that. Why is that? It seems like the Arab world knows he's dead, the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfield et al cabal know, which is why they shut down the OBL task force and Rumsfield has dropped several hints that he "could" be dead for all he knows. But it benefits both sides to keep him alive, apparently.
His funeral seems to have been reported in the Arab press around the end of 2001.
Think about it. OBL when we definitely knew he was alive ALWAYS wanted to be the CENTER of attention. He used any chance he could to get in front of the cameras. Then all of a sudden he changes his personality and disappears completely except some non-independently verified video tapes that conveniently appear at times politically always and only benefiting the GOP--just coincidentally.
And, of course, there's that small but persistent belief that OBL single-handedly took down the entire defense system of the USA from some cave in Afghanistan.
Here is a 6'6" guy with kidney failure working from a cave and he causes the entire US military defense system to stand down, previously sturdy steel structures, even ones like WT7 to collapse in seconds into dust, even though one tower was not even hit by anything!

My thoughts exactly. McSame is just showing how far in over his head he is and the MSM is plainly incompetent.

Once again..

What war has McC ever won????

He won't even admit that we have "won" in Iraq...

Which was never a war..... it was a total usurpation of the Iraqi people and then an armed occupation while we allowed them to ethnically cleanse themselves to th is point... where we can now say that we have "won"

I have no idea why our MSM refuses to admit that there were many components that led to the reduction of violence in Iraq.... it was not the deployment of 30K troops to Baghdad that did the job.... that deployment just hurried up what was going to happen....

We still have not dealt with the Kurds.... the only factions anybody is talking about are the Sunni's and Shiia's...
There are still the Kurds...

I just heard McCain say that on CNN. I had the same thought. If he knows exactly how to catch Osama bin Laden why hasn't been done.

He is so full of it, "I know how to win wars."

Of course Wolf did not press the questions. Instead he focused on what would be done with Osama bin Laden comparing it to what Obama said. They also noted a change in what McCain said.

Obviously the MSM has an agenda other than giving us the truth about McCain. Like, duh.

Are you kidding?

No one has done more to further the cause of the GOP than Osama Bin Laden. No one.

Because of him this country's panic allowed the right to grab ahold of this nation's steering wheel, allowed the eavesdropping of its citizenry, allowed us two waltz into sovereign nations to kill their leaders. And while no one will miss Saddam Hussein, how many hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have lost their lives because we decided to let Bush play John Wayne.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had Bin Laden holded up safe in some bunker in the West Virginia hills. He's been nothing but a boon to the right. And maybe that's why he hasn't been found.

This country needs to wisen up. 911 as spectacular as it was was a crude attack, made by 19 men with boxcutters and the element of surprise. In our panic we thought our entire way of life was threatened, because the right told us it was. It was a lie.

And we attacked a nation that had no designs on attacking us, instead of pinpointing the real culprits responsible. That blunder, not treating 911 as the criminal act it was alone should be enough to impeach our Mad King George.

I have been saying the same thing for years now. The questions are who, what, when, where and why.
Who will tell us we have won. What have we won. Where did we win. Why is it considered a win? Real simple journalism, but they never ask the questions.

Great point. but if you're expecting actual journalism, you're in the wrong country.
