It is hard to imagine being abducted, away from your family for eleven years, chained, beaten, with no hope for freedom even when your captors know you did nothing to be there ... that is the case for eighty six men held at Guantanamo Bay prison facility.
In an interview with Ketchikan's KRBD, Alaska's one and only Congressman, Republican Don Young, was able to include a racial slur in comments regarding the economy and employment. Congressman Young said, "My father had a ranch; we used to have 50-60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes," he said. "It takes two people to pick the same tomatoes now. It's all done by machine."
Congressman Young is again under investigation by the House Ethics Committee. The fresh charges are that he failed to report gifts, misused campaign contributions and lied to investigators.
The National Republican Party has recently acknowledged their lack of outreach to the Hispanic population, and have vowed to repair and reach out. Something tells me this wasn't part of their new program.
In 1994, the colorful Congressman waved an Oosik (Penis bone of a walrus) around at a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hearing. When speaking to students in Fairbanks, Young was answering questions about cutting federal funding for the arts that he said had underwritten, "photographs of people doing offensive things," and "things that are absolutely ridiculous." Asked for specifics, Young answered, "Buttf**king."
Royal Dutch Shell's Alaska operations could have used a dose of "local knowledge" to prevent their latest debacle: the grounding of the oil rig Kulluk. That phrase, "local knowledge," should ring a bell for Shell. The company was the one of the largest contributors to a group opposing the restoration...
I'm old enough to remember when the NRA was invited into our schools to educate students on gun safety. Yes, I'm old, and I grew up in rural Alaska, but the NRA as an institution has changed as much as everything else has since then. It now operates as a...
As a woman who worked very hard to make sure your last opponents were not elected -- walking door to door in the snow on your behalf, registering more than a thousand Alaskans to vote, exposing Palin in the national...
Something  in Alaska stinks. Again. Not just an ordinary low tide smell. Not like something you'd blame on the dog. It smells like an infection. For me to plug my nose, I'd have to overlook some curious facts.
I've written another piece like this. It was after the last election....
I'm really proud of my home town. When I say, "I'm just a girl from Homer" on my blog, radio or television show, I like to think it's not so much self-deprecation as it is a friendly warning. When Palin signed off on her Facebook blog bashing Obama on Friday...
It feels strange weighing in on a house of worship thousands of miles away, well, at least for me. A proposed mosque two blocks from Ground Zero has Palin tweeting on a Sunday afternoon.
"I don't give a damn about her." -Wally Hickel 1919-2010
Half-Governor Sarah Palin crashed twice-Governor Wally Hickel's funeral today. Trust me, if Sarah Palin was paying her respects, the check would bounce. The guest list was impressive with many Alaskan dignitaries. And then there was Palin with her daughter Piper,...
Sarah Palin took the stand Friday in the trial of Former University of Tennessee student David Kernell. Kernell is charged with hacking Palin's Yahoo! e-mail account while Palin campaigned in the 2008 presidential campaign.
Kernell is facing 50 years in prison over this incident. He would be 72 years old...
When Alaska Senator Johnny Ellis introduced a bill to subsidize film and television production in Alaska, no one thought then Sarah Palin could be a recipient. On June4, 2008 she signed the film subsidy into law. I wonder if producer Mark Burnett of Survivor fame has...
Publisher HarperCollins has announced Palin's next venture in book makin'. According to them, she is working on a "celebration of American virtues and strengths."
Good Lord, are they joking? No. What's next in the series? "Cooking for Cannibals" and "Dating for Rapists"?
We have all been subjected to the new (stolen) Jay Leno Show promos during the Olympics. I'd like my curling finals Palin-free, but it's apparently not to be. Thanks to his prime-time failure, Jay has his old show back.
I'm a Letterman girl; I can't help it-whining bugs me. Sarah...
The dangers of "death panels" were explained to Americans on Sarah Palin's Facebook page. Oh, sweet Lord, she must not sleep at night...her grandson could be the next victim of "socialized medicine".
Recently released documents from the custody battle show clearly Tripp Palin Johnston has socialized health care through...
