Sheerly Avni is a Bay Area journalist whose work has appeared in Salon, LA Weekly, Variety, San Francisco Chronicle and many other publications. Cinema by the Bay, her book about Northern California studios and filmmakers, was released in June 2006.

She also leads weekly writing workshops for The Beat Within, a weekly print magazine written by and for incarcerated youth.
