The patriarchal society in which we live probably evolved from the prehistoric era when it was necessary for the male to be what has been called the "hunter" and the female as the "gatherer." This analagy comes from the play, Defending The Caveman by Rob Becker. While the play itself is not a scientific study of the rise of the patriarchal society, it gives us a pretty good perspective of how our cultural and religious values became predominent.

Once humans started to write things down into what is called recorded history, the male dominated world naturally believed that the male of the species was superior in every way. So much of that has been disproven in the scientific era and most rational people have accepted the fact that the male gender is not superior to the female gender. On the other hand, most religious and cultural teachings still hold on to the same prehistoric "hunter" role for men. Unfortunately for we males, the unintended consequences of our newly aquired gender knowledge have not been helpful to our male leaders who still hold on emotionally to the primitive male domination belief.

In more primitive cultures, the male domination has led to horrible oppression for woman including female genital mutilation. Woman must understand that the male of our specie is inferior sexually to the female and that the feminine instinct is generally more nurturing and more sexually mature. And when men come into positions of power, their sexual identity is always at stake. For better or worse, most of the male identity lies in the penis. And unfortunately, most of our leaders are males in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, when their testosterone levels are getting seriously compromised.

As a 61 year old man myself, I have encountered the experience and understand that it is a natural function of the ageing process. However, many of our leaders in DC do not get it. My instincts tell me that ageing men in power may be so sexually compromised that their whole identity becomes confused and consequently the aggressive outlet to compensate for this sexual decline is irrational aggression, something most females do not suffer from. Just look at what has happened in Congress and with many of our past Presidents. That is why it is no surprise to me that there is so much sexual hypocrisy coming from many of our leaders.

Unfortunately it will take our society a long time to truly understand and deal with this issue. But, it will take a lot of understanding from women in leadership positions to stop copying the perceived patriarchal approach to be a leader. The best example of this flawed belief again is exemplified by Hillary Clinton's positions on national security and the death penalty. Both of these are tired Old Testament patriarchal positions that have to be discarded. She surely must understand the role of the penis as the male's primary gender identity. What else explains her husband's sexual behavior before and during his Presidency? This is not a criticism of Bill Clinton. He unfortunately probably does not completely understand his problem any more than she does. That is why women in leadership roles must take the initiative to balance the scales of power that have led us astray. Metaphorically, ED can only be dealt with by a mature understanding from both genders. It cannot be solved by giving men more Viagra.
