We sat down with the five founding members of YouTube's "Jash" network in Austin, Texas during the 2013 South by Southwest festival. Sarah Silverman, Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Michael Cera and Reggie Watts discuss the promise of making content directly for the Web, bypassing gatekeepers and breaking down barriers.
Here's what they have to say about it:
Heidecker: "JASH is an online community of creative artists," "We were given an opportunity to create content where there are no restrictions, no rules, no boundaries."
Cera: "It's where comedy doesn't have to be funny."
Silverman: "We can involve all of our friends. We can kind of curate our pages with other great comedians and actors," "This is stuff that we think is cool and there's no risk of getting canceled."
Watts: "I think that the Internet has been wanting to try something like this. If it really gets rolling, which I think it will, you won't think about TV as much."
