As executive producer of Taxi to the Dark Side, I am appalled at the Motion Picture Association of America' censorship of the poster for our documentary because its depiction of the reality of the Bush policy of torture is too disturbing. This acclaimed film, which has already won numerous festival awards, including best documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival, and is shortlisted for the Academy Award, is the single most important movie of 2008, the campaign year.

I have to admit that I rarely buy in to censorship conspiracy theories.. .but to ban a film's poster because a man wearing a hood is "deeply offensive" really sounds suspicious.
I seem to recall seeing a poster for one of the Saw films that had severed fingers on it. Explain that one to me.
I read the comments on this story at the Variety website and the first dozen or more echoed the Rush Limbaugh/Michael Savage line that the film is "anti-American" and reflects "Hollyweird" values. It looks to me like the right-wingers, whether organized or imprompty, are taking over the blogosphere. Since the Internet is the final stand for free speech, it looks even more ominous.
Nothin' sells tickets like censorship. Of course this kind of wrong-headed moralistic hogwash is emblematic of the "style" of "leadership" our rubber suited clowns in the government have taken as their hallmark. When it blows up in their face, they blame it on Clinton... somehow.
Congratz on getting the condemnation. I hope it leads to future success and a further exposure of McChimpy's posse for the butwipes they are.
Yes, torture has become like America's mentally challenged Uncle - sure we like him, but we would not rather see him around, lest we reocognize he's ours.
It's sort of like Ashcroft covering the naked statues of justice. Infantilism, hypocrisy, and bold faced lying are ok round' here, but for God sakes people please. Cover your boobies. And your eyes.
things are pretty f'ed up in America right now - time to retire the MPAA or at least find people who are not political hacks to run the thing.
sickening - this won;t help America's image abroad - especially not for the arts - what happened to liberty and the first amendment?
Well, I probably agree with you Sid, but you're not giving us a hell of a lot to chew on in this "blog."
Yeah, and Bush is a war criminal. What's your point?
Tucker and Manchaca
A hooded man? That's why it was censored? I see commercials for horror films that make me want to vomit, and a picture of a hooded man is too much?
Give me a break!
