Memo to Danes: Even You Cannot Control This Summit

Commented Dec 14, 2009 at 12:45:41 in Green

“I was up early hoping to catch news of the rally/parade.
I say parade because I would rather watch the rally/walk for climate action than a Santa Claus parade.
What did CBC do, focus on the police and possible violence.
I wanted see the people, the signs, the costumes. the singing and dancing.
For sure I emailed them”

“I might have been a bit jealous in the 60s or early 70s about the Jagger incident. But not now. Nor would I have been a decade or 2 ago.
These people led a lifestyle that contradicted the message of their songs and music. Freedom does not mean taking advantage of the vulnerable.”

“As a woman I have been stressed since childhood knowing that men were treated preferentially and had more power.
Now that I am a grandmother I am stressed by the destruction of the environment, the terrible thoughts from right wing people and religious fundamentalists and my personal biggest stress is from the ubiquitous use of the AUTOMOBILE. I can't seem to escape the NOISE and toxic fumes and am thoroughly myffed that our society has been built to serve the automobile and its uses and abuses. When I saw that we overlook this and got myself an electric bike to do my errands and pledged to use public transit I discovered how horrible it is to be in the midst of all these automobiles. Total Stress and no peace and that makes me VERY UNHAPPY!”

Why I Loved Obama's Health Care Speech

Commented Sep 10, 2009 at 15:46:43 in Politics

“I LOVED IT TOO!
This and the election night speech are BEST EVERS in the history of American politics (in my humble opinion)
How fortunate Americans are to have this person as President!”

AndyRChicago replied on Sep 10, 2009 at 16:02:12

“Lucky for Republicans that most SO-CALLED Progressives are Obama's sheep who'll follow him anywhere and applaud his every word, even as he ditches the public option and dooms the reform to irrelevance. Know this now. The public option is dead and you people seem OK with that!!??”

American Idol 2009 -- If I'm Being Honest

“The next day, a PR man who works for Simon Cowell admitted that Simon had heard her perform in the preliminaries.”

winkin replied on Apr 25, 2009 at 03:24:35

“Not exactly.

The preliminaries were in Glasgow on Oct 22, for the producers.
She was called back for the audition on January 21, where 40 acts were judged and recorded.
A number of those acts were then edited for the broadcast on April 11.
Max Clifford, Britain's PR guru, mentor and friend of Cowell said last week that Cowell told him, and others, weeks before April 11 that they had to watch the first episode because there was an extraordinary act. And hinted that helped in getting immediate media coverage, especially in the US.
What happened between October and January.... I don't think we'll ever know. Certainly not from Ms Boyle herself who, as is usual with those shows, must have a strict confidentiality contract.”

“Better fuel efficiency will not stop traffic, fatalities and injuries.
We MUST stop supporting the AUTOMOBILE and go to LIGHT RAIL and INNOVATIVE public transit.
Neil Young is just part of the selfish lot who cherish their automobile while the rest of us pay for it while waiting in the rain and cold to serve Americans for less than a living wage while people roar past in their automobiles gassing us with their stink.
OK, electric will be quiet, and not stinky, but we will still have to to hang out at the bus stop.
ITS NOT FAIR!$#”

indy100 replied on Jan 05, 2009 at 18:53:34

“While I agree we should be investing much more in public transit, that is not always the feasible option. I live in a semi-rural area and work in the next county, about 25 miles away. We do have some bus service, not nearly enough or enough routes, and I would love the option of taking light rail. With the population in Utah, however, it's not feasible to build light rail outside of the Salt Lake valley. And, even with light rail there are days when people have to drive, doctor's appointments, etc. We need to invest in multiple directions, first and foremost should be alternative fuel and energy.”
