Palin Gets Another Ethics Complaint (Read Her Staff's Emails)
Commented Dec 04, 2009 at 18:01:24 in Politics
“I found that a bit surprising. I, at least, always assumed that on social issues like abortion and sex education she had pretty clearly positions (positions to which I strenuously object). It's a little disconcerting that her staff felt the need to ask the McCain campaign to confirm her positions. I think it says as much about the McCain campaign as it does about Sarah Palin and her staff.”

Christian Leaders Scapegoat Gays on Marriage

“First, there were certainly "real atheists" prior to and during slavery in America. Since there were also Jewish people, native Americans and any number of religious minorities not everyone was "basically a Christian". Either people are Christians or they aren't. You can't basically be Christian just because you don't claim some other religious affiliation.
Second, many southern Christians used the bible to justify slavery so no, bringing up Christians in relation to slavery isn't all that difficult. Many southern Christians used portions of the Old Testament to justify that they had the right to keep slaves.”

“Buying fresh fruits and vegetables can be cost effective, it's just a matter of where you shop. If you're buying your produce at Whole Foods, yeah, that's expensive, but if you look for local produce markets you will find that fruits and veggies aren't as expensive as you think. I know, I live in Nowhere, PA and I have local produce. Look harder, shop smarter.”

“1. If you have to admit you've met decent Mormons, then clearly the family wasn't implausible.
2. If you're focusing on the "cuddliness" of the Mormon family, you missed the entire point of the episode which spoke largely on the fairly ridiculous beginnings of the Mormon church.
3. I don't even know where to go. Did you actually have a comment about the episode this article is talking about? Because if you did, I missed it. I mean, "lame cartoon"? If that's the best you've got to offer then maybe you should just say it out loud in front of your computer.”

“That's kind of the point. She's not fat, but people are saying that she's fat because of the ridiculous weight standards to which people hold female celebrities and women in general. So the fact that is is not of an unattractive weight while these only mildly attractive men are calling her fat is funny.”

The comment that they are "Democrats" is meant to confuse the issue and disfuse the understandable anger that any American should feel when our political process is subverted. “I think that politicians having affairs... people in general having extra-marital affairs are none of my business. What is the business of South Carolinians though, is that their governor left the state for five days without anyone knowing where he was or how to reach them. Now certainly. ...nothing happened, this time, but that's the real situation here. What he was doing in Argentina is absolutely irrelevant. I mean, let's just say he was writing in Argentina. Fine, he was still gone for five days without telling anyone. If a governor wants to go on vacation that's fine, people can do that, but you don't just go on vacation without telling anyone. This is the issue. The affair is a red herring. It's nothing like the Clinton scandal. Bill didn't leave town mysteriously for several days to go have an affair with Monica Lewinsky. He was a multi-tasker. Whatever Sanford was doing, if my governor ran off somewhere for 5 days without telling anyone where, you can bet your ass I wouldn't be voting him in for another term and I think I probably would like his resignation. I don't think that just letting it go with a pat on the head makes us the bigger person. It makes us idiots. Let's just be clear about what the real problem was.”
What White Supremacists Are Saying Today About Holocaust Museum Gunman

“It makes me so furiously angry when white supremacists use Norse Paganism as some sort of justification for their hatred. It makes all pagans, but most especially Norse Pagans seem like anti-semites and racists. Hating other peoples and other cultures is not a part of Norse Paganism as it isn't a part of any road of Paganism. I don't believe that my gods are any more special than any other person's god(s). I can't even make a coherent point about it because I'm just so disgusted and so angry.”

The problem is religions which are intolerant of those outside the faith. If all faiths would subscribe to a policy of respect for other faiths, we might be able to move forward as a species. There are many ways up the mountain; the view from the top is the same.”

If there's any hope for any of them, they'd be shocked at their own ignorance, and just maybe find a more honorable path with the old Gods. A lot of kids *are* actually a bit starved for a sense of heritage. No one said it had to be a hateful or fearful one, cause that's not what's happening.”
