“I found that a bit surprising. I, at least, always assumed that on social issues like abortion and sex education she had pretty clearly positions (positions to which I strenuously object). It's a little disconcerting that her staff felt the need to ask the McCain campaign to confirm her positions. I think it says as much about the McCain campaign as it does about Sarah Palin and her staff.”

“First, there were certainly "real atheists" prior to and during slavery in America. Since there were also Jewish people, native Americans and any number of religious minorities not everyone was "basically a Christian". Either people are Christians or they aren't. You can't basically be Christian just because you don't claim some other religious affiliation.

Second, many southern Christians used the bible to justify slavery so no, bringing up Christians in relation to slavery isn't all that difficult. Many southern Christians used portions of the Old Testament to justify that they had the right to keep slaves.”

“Buying fresh fruits and vegetables can be cost effective, it's just a matter of where you shop. If you're buying your produce at Whole Foods, yeah, that's expensive, but if you look for local produce markets you will find that fruits and veggies aren't as expensive as you think. I know, I live in Nowhere, PA and I have local produce. Look harder, shop smarter.”

He was a multi-tasker. Whatever Sanford was doing, if my governor ran off somewhere for 5 days without telling anyone where, you can bet your ass I wouldn't be voting him in for another term and I think I probably would like his resignation. I don't think that just letting it go with a pat on the head makes us the bigger person. It makes us idiots. Let's just be clear about what the real problem was.”
