“Wow. You didn't even try to answer my questions. I'll ask again. Whose votes is he getting by doing this? Were ardent supporters ever in the realm of voting Republican?”

“Quite possibly there were gays who were not happy with his stand or were undecided about him and will now vote for him. As we know, not all Americans that are qualified to vote do so. By the way my statement above is factual. I still say, who knows what he really believes.”
“Do you really believe this? How is this going to improve his chances? He's coming out to people that already support him overwhelmingly! That's a net gain of Z E R O. If anything, he is LOSING votes with his decision (from the primitive right, of course).”
“That makes no sense. Whose votes is he getting by doing this? Gays? Progressives? You mean to tell me that ardent supporters of gay marriage were ever in the realm of voting Republican? That's laughable.”

“He was for it before he was against it before he was for it. Need I say more. If you wonder where I got the info, I saw it tonight in 3 separate news clips. Look it up.”

“Spike Lee's films are intelligent works of art that are WORTH something in the black community. They are educational, uplifting, and enriching. Tyler Perry's "works" are stereotypical, formulaic, vapid and quite bluntly, worthless. To those saying Spike should be happy there is another successful Black filmmaker... why? Why should he be proud that the only other black filmmaker is pumping out bullshit? Furthermore, who does Tyler Perry think he is comparing himself to Hurston? I've got news for you: You've got a LONG way to go before what you do comes close to having the significance Hurston or Lee works ever did.”

That argument is about as pretentious and obnoxious as those classical music and acoustic jazz snobs who look down their nose at pop music. ....and I'm someone who enjoys classical and jazz. But I also enjoy pop.
Just like I enjoy all kinds of movies.
The issue here is not that there is only ONE kind of valid movie-making. Art is about reflecting the FULL-RANGE of the human condition. An emotionally-healthy human being is sometimes serious, and wants to work through high-minded themes....
...but that same human being is also silly, and just wants to bask in the absurdity of life, and its funny moments.
Because it is all Life.
Someone who is silly all the time, and cannot entertain any thing else...can become clownish. But, likewise, a person who can never let his hear down, and takes potshots at those who can (are you listening, Spike)...can become obnoxious, pretentitous, self-obsessed and BOORISH.
There is room for both kinds of movies at the table. Just as there is room for fine wine....and Budweiser. You don't serve Bud with filet mignon from a five-star resturant. Just like you don't serve a 50 year-old French bordeaux with pizza on a Saturday afternoon watching football with friends.”
