FIrst, a large portion of the R&D that goes on the the US is funded by the government, not the drug companies. This is especially true of drugs that treat diseases like cancer, diabetes and such. A large portion of drug company R&D goes into drugs for things like ED and anti-depressants.

According to the CBO "Most of the important new drugs introduced by the pharmaceutical industry
over the past 40 years were developed with some contribution from public-sector research "

So don't be so quick to believe the R&D claims by Pharma, they spend between 15 and 20% on R&D (like a software company).

The idea that if they reduced prices R&D would disappear is just false.

You sound just like a lobbyist or a drug copmpany apologist. But it's good you admitted they add huge amounts to the price in the USA simply because they can. You said it yourself there is no control. Everybody needs some control. The profits these behemoths report are AFTER they spend for R & D and they are obcene my good friend.
