Robert Reich Trashes White House 'Numbskull' For Walmart Event

“Walmart is the biggest of the welfare corporations who pays their employees so low that they are among the working poor eligible for federal assistance food stamps. If Walmart paid a living wage then we might think of them as economic contributors...for now they are among the corporate welfare corporations for whom we tax payers support while their CEO are making huge profits.”

larrytheuglrep on May 10, 2014 at 09:37:33

“I see you are real good at regurgitating Dem talking points, but if you talk to people of Walmart, you will find that those with ability and drive do not stay on the bottom rungs. Like America, they reward the people who give effort. You people want everyone to get the same, and you know what that makes you, don't you?”

“Who exactly has turned their back on labor? WHen the president asked Republicans to vote on is Job's bill to put people back to work rebuilding the U.S. infrastructure they refused; when the president asked Republicans to raise the minimum wage they also refused. It's not the President who's turned their backs on the working class; it's Republicans who have done nothing but stand in the way.”

“That infrastructure bill would have put a few construction workers back to work but what America needs is a Marshall plan to bring manufacturing and those millions of jobs back from China ! Neither party is willing to tackle free trade and lose all that money from the importers that corrupted this government and screwed it working citizens !”

“But, you haven't offered up any productive solutions other than to suggest people not have those children. Without knowing these families you don't know if they are among the working poor, or have suffered recent illness or other circumstance that has placed them in this situation. How do you think corporate welfare ties into a solution. Many of these people work for places like Walmart that do not pay a living wage; these same individuals are then eligible for food stamps while Walmart takes home billions in profits...Whatever happen to the concept of a "living wage"? Fair is fair!”

Gregg Peppel on Mar 30, 2014 at 16:01:23

“I don't know all of the details, but neither do you. Yet - it is a fairly common story we see among today's poor. A young, single mother with no job and several children to feed - none of which she can afford without government assistance. I am not opposed to the government assistance, but we have heard this story for decades. If we as a society are going to dole out welfare, we alos ought to be examining the root causes of the poverty and doing something about that. Maybe a living wage is the answer, but many economists argue that a living wage will actually decrease employment. Maybe forced birth control for those on welfare is the answer. Maybe stricter punishments for fathers who abandon their kids is an answer. There are a lot of maybes - and no one is discussing them.”

“I'll bet the people waiting for their Food Stamp money are employees of wealthy corporations like Walmart that pay such low wages that the employee is income eligible for food stamps. Providing for a "Living wage" might help and maybe we ought to stop supporting corporate welfare so that we aren't supporting those who pay less for their own greed-making profits.. Many have children they are able to afford only to go through life to find conditions change whereby they are forced into devasting uncertainty. No matter wha, , children aren't to blame; they are living human beings who deserve to be fed, clothed and educated, and even given an extra hand up when they are willing to to meet the challenges of life head on.”

“Yes you can keep your doctor or insurance plan if you would rather have a plan where insurance companies make your medical decisions on what they will cover and for how long and not cover because of preexisting condions or throw your kids off the plan before they have purchasing power of their own. They canceled plans so they could write the new ones in compliance with law. Right now, with the ACA you have a more comprehensive plan of coverage...it was the insurance companies who canceled plans when they were not able to get up to snuff with the requirements, but now that they've got millions more on plans I don't hear insurance companies complaining of the extra profits they're making, even though they have to guarantee more coverage. Yes, shovel ready jobs....where are Republicans to sign the Job's bill....why are they holding this up? Stimulus....was great...saved our auto industry; saved jobs from going under; our state used the money to repair its infrastructure: new gas and water pipes, roads, and some bridges badly in need of repair. Should have used that stimulus money in every state across the country...only wise governors did. We did it here and put lot of people to work. Thank you Mr. President.”

“Many doctors have their own private practise...they should not be allowed to refuse treatment of anyone ...doctors receive payment via state and federal money such as Medicare and Medicaid for patients. As such, they are not allowed to discriminate who they serve. Should this bill go into effect then it should be required that anyone having a religious belief to discriminate, or not to serve any part of the population, should include that on his/her resume and job application. Fair is fair in terms of who an employer has the right to hire and anyone who refuses to serve any portion of the population will also have difficulty becoming employed.”

And that was sent out prior to the bridge closing, so there is indication that a lot more was known and pre-planned.”

“You don't trust Wildstein but you trust Christie? If Wildstein's lawyers say he has evidence, then it's not just Wildstein that is making the accusation, it's his team of lawyers and Wildstein. Christie was the one who was governor at the time of the bridge closing...it was Christie who ran a race for governor, not Wildstein, and it is Christie who is hopeful for running for the highest office in the nation, not Wildstein. So if anyone has a motive for bullying people into doing what he wants to support him, it's Christie...just a common sense conclusion.”

An infant of a year old and the child that got hit was only a year and a half...the only thing they know at that age is when they are afraid, or hungry, or wet...they don't talk yet and are not able to be reasoned with. That's what make this crime so unbelievable, that this man didn't have the brains to know any better. He needs to be taught a lesson; he needs anger management classes, and alcohol treatment. There is no excuse for this. He is the adult...if he didn't like the baby crying that he should have moued himself, or even asked if he could be of help to the mother.”

“OK, try this one for a change. We have the Federal Poverty Level and ayone who makes LESS than that level can apply and get 'help' from local, State and Federal monies! If you have a child and a spouse, you can work and pay taxers. If you are under the Poverty Level -ALL THE TAXES taken will be returned PLUS Earned income Credit (other's people money) will be added. Then, you can have daucare subsidies, section 8, wic, EBT cards and even a free phone. In some cases, you even get FREE GASOLINE COUPONS! “A government should not be able to violate the 1st amendment and require a business to violate their religious beliefs. The woman has the right to not work in a place who does not offer to accede to her immorality, much less be forced by our government to participate in said immorality. If a woman wants to kill a baby, the Supreme Court says she should be allowed to kill a baby, but they have no right to determine that owners of a company follow a government's religious bias. That's what the 1st amendment says anyway.”

And lets face it. No matter what birth control plans you put in place there will many individuals out there who will engage in unprotected sex.”
