“You do know that Obama does NOT support gay marriage. Don't You?”

JohnJames replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 14:54:22

“You do know that as a state senator in Illinois Obama supported gay marriage unequivocally, don't you? Funny, isn't it, how politicians so often "discover" that their supposed "faith" is against same-sex marriage whenever it happens to suit their ambitions.”

enhancedvibes replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 14:22:38

“You do know that he said he would not allow his PERSONAL opinions about gay marriage to sidetrack such an important issue or sway his decision to sign anything with regard to gay civil rights? Don't you? Obama's PERSONAL opinion about gay marriage is irrelevant.

i.e. Our President understands that his personal opinions about such an issue have no bearing on his position as POTUS whose job is to represent ALL Americans.”

“What do you prefer? The party that slow-walks on their promises? Or the party that would forment revolution against the hate crimes bill? The Republicans are the ones who think it shouldn't incur extra penalties if you throw acid in a gay person's face just because they're gay. I understand if you're pissed at the dems, but the Republicans are a very clear case of out of the frying pan and into the fire.”

“It looks like some Republicans are wise enough to see that Obama's betrayal of the gay community is putting millions of votes back into play. Word to the wise: If politicians will support our equality, then the gay community will support your campaign. Obama's betrayal will not be forgotten.”

“You don't really think the Democrats care about what is right or what is good for the people, do you? Obama and the Dems have proven the ONLY thing they care about is what will get them re-elected.

Obama's betrayal of the gay community and our quest for equality proved that loud and clear.”

ammsunday replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 13:39:11

“I'm a Democrat who supported Obama both financially and with my vote. He's a snake. I have the snake oil to prove it. He's a fraud and I don't need another 3 years to figure that out. His friends smell bad and he keeps them. Glen beck wanted Van Jones out and he was gone - but not his financial boys. No not them. Snake. Coward. Weak. Obama. We're sitting the next one out.”

dcjdjay replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 13:31:09

“What betrayal?

In his first year, he's passed anti-hate crimes legislation that protects gay people, has dropped the ban against HIV+ foreign nationals from visiting the US, extended Ryan White, has promised to sign ENDA and push for the repeal of DADT.

That's more than anyone else has done, or even promised to do.

As a gay American, I find your impatience to be childish.”

Americans are just LAZY. Millions of LGBT are LAZY.

I'm sure they can show up and spend tons on money on PRIDE parades though.

It was gay rights groups that asked Obama to NOT sign an EO on DADT anyway~”

A year has not even passed and you are already being rather hostile because OBama is not "moving fast enough for you" when you sat by quietly from 2000-2008 and demanded nothing from the GOP. Look at how difficult it is to even get health care reform passed - when OBama himself wanted to have a bill signed by Thanksgiving. Do you seriously believe that Obama is intentionally trying to delay gay rights just for sport? Or is that simply a convenient thing for you to do because it gives you a ready scapegoat and prevents you from acknowledging that the political system created by our founding fathers was designed to make change difficult?

And when people say nonsense like "at least with Bush, we knew what we were getting," I say to them: Really? Did you vote for someone knowing that he was going to ruin the economy with tax cuts for the wealthy and illegal wars, and off the books accounting? Did you knowingly vote for someone who would be playing golf while New Orleans drowned? Did you knowingly vote for someone who tortured, spied, could barely form a coherent sentence, and ranked civil rights the lowest on the totem pole?”
