“To everyone making cracks up about the "tattoo hype," I just want to let you know that body modification has been around since B.C.E. times. Tattoos are not a fad or a trend, and they're definitely not going anywhere.”

Barringtonmorr on Dec 28, 2012 at 01:42:37

“Body modifications have been around since BCE times for ritualistic purposes. The art form today has largely become a fad in the United States. A fad that reflects the shallow nature of youth.”

chefmike on Dec 28, 2012 at 01:19:38

“Tattoos are traditionally for sailors, circus performers, convicts and Polynesians. Now a days they are everywhere; some quite sad looking. As it is no longer evokes "hey look at me" it too shall diminish. Unlike the booming business of tattoo removal.

Now the kids are beginning to look like my old National Geographics. I expect to see plates stretching out lips very soon”

“I worked for the campaign and we saw this problem ALL the time. Volunteers would take placards to keep inside their home as a piece of memorabilia but would absolutely refuse when I offered them a yard sign. They had already been physically threatened and, in some cases, had their private property vandalized during the '08 campaign and didn't want to relive the experience. It's a shame.”

“I wish. But the gay community barely makes up 5% of the voting population. If they all stand behind Johnson, not only will he still lose, but so will President Obama. Then you'll have Mitt Romney in office, who not only disagree with granting equal legal rights to homosexual couples, but also donates millions of dollars to a "church" that throws it's full financial support behind defending state-amendments to completely ban said rights for homosexuals (e.g. Prop 8 in California).”

He constantly tries to override Congress in the attempt to pass his policies (many that even the Dems don't want - ie his ban on "Buy America"). Hopefully SCOTUS will find much of his ridiculous policies illegal, as they should be.”

Commented Mar 25, 2012 at 19:30:02 in Healthy Living

“When I was a teenager I held down a 50hr a week job, which I realize was against the law, but was also necessary. I needed to help my mother, financially, so that we could get by as a family. I also needed to make sure I made enough money to put away so that I could afford college once I graduated. On top of that I had 4hrs of homework a night, sometimes more. Don't speculate. I've seen a lot of teenagers who are doing more than they should have to at such a young age. I'm a single-mother now, with no help from anyone, and I feel like I actually have less weight on my shoulders now than I did during high school.”

cfeld2 on Mar 26, 2012 at 05:15:35

“And? I'm finishing up my last semester of Veterinary school (commuting to another state), I train as an amateur fighter, while also holding down a job and a spouse, health problems, bills, etc. My body and mind are EXHAUSTED. This is life. I did more than my share as a teenager as well. Again, AND? I'm 26 years old, so I haven't been away from high school for that long. I remember the whining and the adderall being sold after school. I remember my friend OD'ing on that stuff senior year. He would also claim that they don't use it to get high either. I work very hard and have always worked very hard. Listening to the complaints and rationalizations of a time in your life most would kill to get back, is tiresome.”

“The number of Christians, compared to "non-Christians", is EXTREMELY vast. Almost 75% of the United States considers themselves to be a member of a Christian sect. Less than 15% consider themselves to be "unaffiliated" or "non-religious". So yeah, it would make sense to see a lot more charities with a Christian affiliation, considering they strongly outnumber us, and have many years of practice when it comes to organizing. As atheists, we tend to steer clear of the whole organization-driven thing. Trust me, we donate. We just don't have a "name" to put on our charity. There's no publicity required.”

How Much Water Do You Really Need? What Hydration Looks Like

How Much Water Do You Really Need? What Hydration Looks Like

Commented Feb 28, 2012 at 20:25:39 in Healthy Living

“Well, I'm not sure what politics has to do with it, especially since I'm not a Republican lol, but I used to do ecstasy all the time. It was my choice of drug throughout high school and my early 20s. We would usually force ourselves to drink water or orange juice because we were worried about dehydrating. The drug also gives you a massive-case of cotton-mouth, so it makes sense that you would drink water continuously throughout. People who would get paranoid easily, or anyone who was doing it for the first time, would sometimes overdo it with the water because they were so worried about how "dangerous" the drug was (mostly because of crap they had heard from the news and such) and I've seen a couple of people throw up from drinking too much water at rolling-parties.

Here are several stories backing up this argument:
http://www.urban75.com/Drugs/drugxtc1.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Wood_(schoolgirl)
http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20136490,00.html

The wikipedia article has a few other links to individual cases where water intoxication was the main culprit in the death of people rolling on E.”

“Show me a story. Any link will do. When you're on ecstasy, you sweat a lot and lose a lot of water and don't really want to drink water so I'd find this hard to believe. Sounds like a vague urban myth like Republican line to me.”

Commented Feb 24, 2012 at 16:49:16 in Religion

“Very well said. As an atheist, I have no faith or belief that there is, or ever has been, a supernatural creator. But it would be just as foolish for me to say that I'm 100% that there ISN'T one as it is for religious folk to say that they are 100% that there IS one. We all have doubt, some of us less than others, but doubt, nonetheless.”
