“Ha, that's 562 reasons for me to go. I'll just stay out of the water. But seriously, more fascinating than the spiders are Australia's snakes. The country has the highest concentration of venomous snakes anywhere in the world, and is the only continent with more venomous than non-venomous snakes. Awesome.”

Religion,...now that's where people can be indoctrinated.”

“There is no one ideal in any religion. It is always interpretation. The openness to interpretation combined with the extreme moral requirements that form one end of this gradient in interpretation make religious ideology causally responsible for this.”

“I'm just saying that to me all of this morality is rather megalomaniacal and we would all be better off embracing the mystery rather than trying to explain it. The message and the messenger in this instance do not differ "syllable from sound."”

beyobi replied on Dec 23, 2009 at 20:40:42

“Right and wrong are subjective and the exclusive domain of the individual. Any commonality of morality is either coincidental or dogmatic. When people presume to know what is right or wrong for anyone but themselves is when they get in trouble. You will find this at the root of every historical conflict.”

“You're missing the point. Obama never INTENDED to give us the public option. None of the currently "electable" politicians can. This is because anyone deemed "electable" is deemed so by the corporate powers that be.

I know that the past 200 years of history shows slow progress, but we've reached an impasse. The current system has accumulated too many kinks in it and it can't be straightened out any longer. It needs to be replaced.

We need a paradigm change, and this change can only come through a populist power-play. The politicians cannot affect this change, because they are wholly owned subsidiaries of the corporate oligarchy. We need to institute a liberal power-structure to force government to bring about progressive change, the way the right has learned to do so well to force government to remain still.”

“Good point. I've often likened the current situation we're in to the end days of monarchy in Europe. Back then, the right-wing power structure controlled everything using brute force. Brute force was the solution towards ending it. During 200 years of democracy, the right-wing power-structure has figured out more subtle ways of oppressing the peasants. They use social conditioning through media and corporate manipulation of government. If we are to defeat this new form of oppression, we must adopt the same strategies.

I will never give another dime to politicians, simply because they are just puppets to the corporate interests. A better strategy is to create a liberal power structure to fight this oppression. We must build new media, think-tanks, interest groups and social networks to influence government using the same social conditioning tricks that the right has learned to harness so well. We need to use the knowledge gained from the social sciences towards achieving our political goals, and this means ignoring the politicians and gaining control of the puppet strings.”
