Can the NAACP Survive President Obama?

Commented Jul 19, 2009 at 18:45:19 in Politics

“All the NAACP do is host large big ticketed dinners and image awards. They are NOT addressing the BLACK ON BLACK CRIME in communities where the majority of their members resides. They are not addressing the social ills that affect the black community... They are proclaiming to be a human rights organization but they are doing nothing about human rights but talking.”

Eric Daniels replied on Jul 20, 2009 at 02:02:46

“THAT IS NOT THEIR JOB NUMNUT !!! ending crime is the responsiblity of the Federal Government and state and local law enforcement to end criminal gangs not the NAACP or any other black organization unless you want us to start a Black Self- defense organzation but don't complain like Hoover like a female dog !!!”

bighat replied on Jul 19, 2009 at 21:31:16

“The NAACP does not have the time to address black on black crime or gang ridden neighborhoods. They must spend their time making sure the number of black coaches in college and professional sports increases. Whatever time is left over is used to increase the number of blacks behind the camera in hollywood.”

catlady777 replied on Jul 19, 2009 at 19:55:51

“I agree with your comment. I am a African-American Baby Boomer that grew up watching the history, glory, and sadness of the sacrifices made by Martin L King, the Kennedy Brothers, Medgar Evers, Cheney, Swener, and Goodman, etc. The NAACP of that time was key to the work of the civil rights movement. The NAACP of 2009 seems to be more concerned with celebrities at the Image Awards then genuinely making a difference for people of color. The NAACP revisit the message of Dr. King's book titled, Why We Can't Wait. The historical place of the NAACP in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1940s through the 1970s is undisputed. The 2009 NAACP is far from what Dr. King worked and died for. I am so proud of President Obama and his message of responsibility. We need to confront discrimination, but we as a people need to get back on track with the formula that got us where we are today. Hard work, getting an education, and having respectful responsible behavior. We had to be better than white folk but it made us stronger. We must do better especially with raising the kids to do more to be more.”

Obama Needs to End Silence on Biggest Civil Rights Move of Our Time

Commented May 08, 2009 at 14:57:33 in Politics

“I thought the biggest Civil Rights Move of our time was the segregated lunch counters, buses, accomondations, voting rights and the end to lynchings of black people from the 1700's to the late 1960's..... So what doyou mean? When my father, grandfather and grandmothers were beaten or trying to vote in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1964 and their churches burned, crosses burned in their yards. Aren't those civil rights violations because of the color of their skin.. When Homer, Louisiana shoots a 73 year old black man in February 2009 because he was black isn't that a civil rights violation?”

CherokeeGirl replied on May 08, 2009 at 18:45:30

“I agree. This issue doesn't compare to those in our history over civil rights and it doesn't compare with the human rights issue of Torture, either.”

wmfor replied on May 08, 2009 at 15:40:05

“Actually, I think the author is limiting "our time" to something like the current year. There is no question that you are correct in what you say. Your father and grandfather and your grandmothers are true heroes of any time and should be an inspiration to all of us, because they persevered.

And you are also right that the struggle continues. Be the rights of one group do not exclude the rights of another.”

Also moronic. Ask his wife if he did anything unethical. Or the other people he prosecuted for prostitution.”
