“I really can't believe the tea party protesters, many from the poor and middle class, fighting tooth and nail so the rich don't have to pay even a tiny bit more.
The same people who would downsize their jobs, foreclose their homes, deny their children health care, plunder their retirements and put their grandmothers out on the street if they could get away with it.
Its like Jews driving the Nazi trains to the concentration camps.
( I know, that analogy showed a lack of class and sensitivity on my part - but Nazi analogies are so in vogue these days, who am I to argue with pop culture? )”

America Without a Middle Class

Its interesting how some people try to blame irresponible behavior on the middle class for their problems, but in reality the luxuries have become surprisingly affordable. Top of the line Digital Cameras, TVs, Game Consoles, etc. can be had for $300-$600.
Its the neccessities, House, Car, Health Care, that have become abusively expensive, and are crushing the middle class.”

Let me take Murdock's point one step further and present a point not often though about. He seems to say if Newscore does a story on Tiger Wood's current problems, for example, that Newscore should be paid if that story is aggregated.
But shouldn't Tiger Woods be paid?
The media itself is basically an 'agregator' of the lives of others, many who don't want their name on TV or in print.”

“One of the greatest coups in business history was Apple and music. The recording industry was presented with a huge problem - people copying music online, costing them a lot of money. While the recording industry had the brilliant idea to sue 13 year olds, Apple created the innovative iTunes, that catered to customers so well they began to PAY for music they were getting for free. (no, I don't work for Apple, or even own an iPod).
Media is now presented with a similar problem. The message to the big shots in the news media these days, who will you be? The innovators who come up with a new, great idea? Or the petulant, snarling whiners who threaten to sue loyal customers who actually LIKE your product?”

But what if someone is 'too good' to show their ID? Remember Rep. Cynthia McKinley tried the 'Do you know who I am???' routine in DC with a guard.
Does the SecServ have the right to demand that EVERYONE show ID? Would they get in trouble if they didn't recognize someone and asked the wrong VIP for ID?
Still too many variables to make a judgement at this point.”

Investor Protection Act: Dems Square Off Against Republicans On Shareholders' Rights

“I don't think what I suggested is communism, I'm not suggesting the company be evenly distributed in ownership or profit. To scale back my point a little, I just think Employees should have SOME say in how a company is run, if employees could do a vote of no confidence in a CEO, I think the way a company was run would vastly improve.
Also forget the term 'sweat equity'. I just think a lot of investors buy a stock because all they care about is making money in the short term. People who have worked at a company for years have a better idea how that company should be run, rather than an investor who just throws lots of money into a business and says, 'make me a profit NOW.'. Frankly, employees also more emotionally invested in seeing the company do well, and career invested ( if they work at a company for years, they want it to be there when someone calls for a reference. )
I've been an investor too, and I admit I've felt this way. A companys stock dragging for a long time had me occasionally thinking, "I dont care WHAT they do, just make me some dang money!".
But hey, its never been tried. What we got doesn't work, might be time for some radical ideas.”

Employees are paid for their sweat equity. They too, could use their money and "buy up the shares" and thereby "vote" on the company. And most also enjoy an ESPP discount.
What you have just suggested is the definition of communism. Which has been tried and utterly failed.
The truth is that in America already most companies' shareholders are "employees" or ex-employees of other companies thru their pension plans and the 401K plans.
The problem is that most these shareholders are like absentee landlords. How many people even know what goes on in the companies their 401K is invested in. This is what has led to a quasi-capitalism where money managers and company managers get away with murder”

The longer you have a stock the lower the tax. Buy and sell in the same year and pay 80% tax on your gains. Buy and sell in 10 years and paid 10% in taxes. That would stop the B.S. with commodity fluctuations as well.”
