“Sounds like the Big O (POTUS) needs to send a message. How about:

- Fire Bernanke
- Nationalise Goldman Sachs
- Break up Bank of America
- declare the two largest health insurers too big to fail, and nationalise them, too.

Then, call the drug companies and suggest they cover their development costs by discontinuing their advertisements and freebies to physicians.

Things would get better - quickly.

[Having poured the fuel I await the first match]”

Over priced designer duds are a must. No suit under $5,000 or handcrafted shoes under $3,000 will do because heck, you're "worth it." Practice that firm handshake and resounding guffaw. Be sure to lean back, steeple your fingers and go "um...um...um" with a few words of jargon thrown in.

That's it, folks!”

“Seems to me that polling on health care should be approached the same way you'd search for jury members for a muder trial where the crime occurred on live television with a national feed.

If that's too deep, let me say it a different way. The "opinion" of most people are found in the MSM they listen to, not from their considered opinion or research.

If that's what you want, go and use it. But don't tell me it signifies anything, other than the skills of the people marketing messages.

Incidentally, who paid for the polls?”

“America leads the world in the development of anti-viral drugs. And then we charge development+overhead+advertising cost+"reasonable profit" for them. Is that something to be proud of? Should anyone make a single penny on drugs, beyond their cost of development and manufacture? Charity does not require a profit margin.

America DOES NOT INTERVENE IN GENOCIDE. Darfur, Senegal, Rwanda, Michouacan, Sinaloa, Phillipines...

America gives foreign aid to nations who have no allegiance to us... in order to increase their indebtedness to us, and thereby increase leverage against those nations. International aid is a hardball game and not a charitable endeavor.

Albany Kid, I hope you will become more Christian in your outlook. Or perhaps more orthodox Muslim. Alternately more Jewish, Unitarian, Sufi, Hindi or Buddhist. And I carry that hope for you, not for any other reason or person but you and you alone.

Because if you truly believe America is doing all right with these areas, your spiritual program .... could use a little work. In the meantime, stop talking about my country like you own it.”

The Albany Kid replied on Nov 30, 2009 at 11:13:27

“IMO, there is no shame in a drug company's seeking to earn a profit. If it were otherwise, who would invest enough money in the company to enable it to develop anti-virals and other wonder drugs in the first place?

My bad, I thought that America's efforts to combat Germany during WWII counted as intervening in genocide in a major way (and yes, I realize that ending the Holocaust was not America's only reason for entering WWII).

Granted, giving aid is a hardball game and is seldom done for purely altruistic reasons. However, I bet that most poor / debtor nations would rather receive aid with a touch of realpolitik than no aid at all.

Thank you for your spiritual concern (I really mean that). We (who are already Christian) should always strive to be more Christian in our outlook.

As far as talking about America as though I "own it" goes, I think that in essence, all of America's citizens "own" her.”
