“Earl

I disagree on so many levels. I am not gay and I could care less how she answered a question but I still feel she is WRONG for lying on her contract. The photo's to me are not racy and only a little worse than the bikini's they have the contestants wear. However, we have had other beauty Queens stripped of their crowns for the same thing. Bottom line I disagree that we are ALL on a "Witch Hunt".

Furthermore.....I do not agree that Beauty Contest are "stepping stones" to help a women's career. It is a sexist and antiquated practice. Your examples of Halle, Michele, and Sharon are weak.......oh so let me go put my daughter in a beauty contest, that is a sure way for her to be successful....GIVE ME a BREAK!

One more thing, now that I realize that these contestants are "fake" or surgically enhanced pisses me off even more. With so many image issues young girls have to deal with it would be better if these contest did not allow women who have been surgically altered. That’s cheating at least have them compete on their “Natural Beauty”.”

“if she lied, then she IS wrong. BUT, it is obviously a witch hunt and you're a tad blind if you don't see it.
Beauty Contests aren't always stepping stones, but they CAN be. It is not a guarantee and certainly not a "sure way", but it can be used to "get in the door" to some doors that might have previously been closed. What a person does once through the door is up to them, but getting through is key and I am sure some can use this better than others.

If you want natural beauty then why are they wearing any clothes at all? is that cheating? what about makeup? hair color? fake eye lashes? jewelry? high heels? shaving legs, underarms, etc? you want it all "natural" do you? Be careful what you wish for........;)”

“I don't blame illegal immigrants for "depressing wages" here in America.....it is the fault of the businesses trying to get cheap labor. They are NOT suppose to hire illegal immigrants. I very much want immigration reform......but because it is so out of hand, partly because Bush ignored the problem for 8 years, we have to come up with a FAIR solution.

"Securing" our boarders is an important part of the solution and so is enforcing our current immigration laws.”

ibwilliamsi replied on Apr 30, 2009 at 12:41:37

“Agreed. I'm not terribly old, but I know when I was young my brothers and sisters and I worked harvesting the fruit and veggie fields for summer money. My friends who came from Southern states worked the peanut and cotton fields. The buses would come through our neighborhoods and the kids would be lined up with their sack lunches and transistor radios ready to work in the fields. As an adult, I do not know of a single contemporary whose children have worked in the fields. It is below them. If you feel that it is beneath you and beneath your children to work the fields, and you're not prepared to to triple the amount of money you pay for your fruits and veggies, you are a big part of the illegal immigration problem.”

Black Republican Flips Out at RNC

“ENOUGH! Both of you. Hurricane Katrina was DISATEROUS and there is ENOUGH blame to go around. From the people who chose to stay, to the Mayor and Governor who did not provide a means for EVERYONE to evacuate, to FEMA who was totally UNPREPARED to do their job afterwards.

I was please to see this time around (hurricane Gustav).....everything worked, as it should. People evacuated calmly and orderly, Gov't officials did their part and I'm sure FEMA was prepared. It was an AWFUL learning lesson for America, but something positive did come out of Katrina, and that is EVERYONE will make sure it doesn't happen again!

Now it is the Republicans fault that parts of Louisiana has NOT been re-built. I understand we sent money to Georgia but we can't take care of our own. That is ASHAME.”

Bush/Chaney are riding off into the sunset and leaving all this mess.....and we are suppose to trust McCain to fix it......when he feels they did nothing wrong. How can you look at yourself in the mirror and say Obama shows poor judgement. They had 8 years to put us on the right track and they didn't. Everything that Obama has said to do.....the Bush administration is doing. I'll take his inexperience any day!”

“It is really sad that the Clinton's are not more involved in Obama's campaign. I do remember that Gore and Kerry distance themselves from Bill. But as I recall, I thought it was because of the Monica scandel. However, I think we have moved on and Bill would be a great asset. Something is really strange with the Clinton's and the Democratic party. I don't think many like them (hence the flood of Superdelegates to Obama). Are they difficult to work with? Maybe they don't have good personalities. It is just weird.”

“I have to disagree. Obama said he is a UNITER everyone else THOUGHT he was far left. He knows that he can't be too liberal in his decisions. He has to try to make EVERYONE happy. He doesn't belong to the Black community, he doesn't belong to the folks at move-on.orgg", he doesn't belong to the Liberals or Conservatives.....and I think that this has ALWAYS been his message. What we are seeing is true leadership....even if we don't agree with everything decision he makes.

As President of the United States he can't be reckless in bringing our troops home. If he was still saying he could do it in 16 months would be pandering. In light of what we know, I don't think saying a "Responsible, Gradual, withdrawal from Iraq" is a BAD thing. It is much more than what McCain has planned.”

Barbyrah replied on Jun 28, 2008 at 01:09:59

“Hmm. My take on it: There"s a difference between trying "to make EVERYONE happy" (which, as a former therapist, I can truthfully say was an issue that had to be addressed in many treatment plans)...and being someone who may not make EVERYONE happy, but who has the integrity, wisdom, character, and demeanor to solve problems via a foundation of genuine good will (and...accepting the fact they'll probably still end up with a few folk who, while able to live with a decision won't necessarily be "happy" about it).
(I don't think conflict resolution is about watering down a position just to make EVERYONE happy; it's about keeping focused on commonalities, then working with others to settle disagreements realizing...not everyone is going to leave the table with a smile on his/her face, but...they'll at least leave the table trusting that the best process possible was followed, that they were "heard," respected, and valued.)
Thanks for reading.”

Before election day arrives, Barack will be saying how much the Surge is succeeding and how much he is for it and will continue it once he is president.
Shucks, if he continues like this, conservatives will vote for him in very large numbers and, yes, he will prove to be the uniter that you claim he is.
But I would have to disagree with you that he didn't pander to the left. He did...in spades.”

“I feel you on this one. It is so scary and sad that we have people like this in positions of power. One thing this primary process has done is "expose" the hate/fear/disdain that people in power have for people of color. It also exposes the ones who are accepting of people who are different. The ones who have common sense. Like Arianna, Micheal Moore and many other Whites out there. But getting back to the article, I want people to really think about the implications that hateful people like this has on our society. I am not blaming them for the problems in the Black communities but they damn sure are not helping.”
