Elizabeth Warren On What A Presidential Bid Would Mean

Elizabeth Warren On What A Presidential Bid Would Mean

“I would like it if Warren runs. The Democratic Party should not just crown people. This is the party of ideas and building consensus. So go on Elizabeth. This is not about winning it is about giving a voice to people who do not have one.”

“I know I was not happy with HP moving over to Facebook. I think that this not letting people keep firewalls between parts of their lives is part of the corporate ideology of control and corralling and fully exploiting you for all you are worth to them. They are ruining the Internet. It was supposed to be a place where you could have free exchange of ideas. But of course "free" is not in the corporate lexicon.”

peacekitten on Jun 1, 2014 at 13:22:32

“i agree.   it was a calculated decision on HP's part to vaporize a community that has taken nine years to build.     the conversations that took place  here are what made it unique.  they don't seem to understand that once those are gone, they will have nothing a whole host of other sites don't already have.   people will get their news elsewhere because there are LOADS of better sites for that.   as far as news goes, this place is little more than a tabloid.   but the conversations were a different matter, as there were many very astute posters who put up great and useful information.   i hope their decision to turn this place into nothing but an advertisement occasionally interrupted by questionable content backfires in a very big way.   ”

“The delusional people who work in the US criminal justice system that incarcerates at higher level than any other country on the planet and that has more of its minority population incarcerated than any other country on the earth and has all of these insults to humanity starting with slavery and Jim Crow and the nasty cultural war that so many citizens have had to suffer under and still spew nonsense from their privileged mouths. Why not fix the real drivers of the failed war on the poor. Why not stand in the mirror of truth and real justice of the social balance and see past all of the statistics to the truths lived in our lives. Things like marijuana are nearly intoxicating flowers that go up in smoke but tyranny takes its punishment in flesh and freedom and taking from the masses to please the few. Shame on these people who do not speak out and call for an end to the suffering of those punished too harshly or in ways that do not lead to the proper goals. May the fools be mocked for their forced ignorance displayed in public. This man is a silly fool who should shame all those public servants who are not.”

“The law makers of both parties need to move forward on a comprehensive reform of the drivers of mass incarceration and over criminalization. One place to start is moving on the medical marijuana issue. However we need to address the sentencing and help people in all of these guys and gals' states. That is part of governing. We will be surprised if they can all get it together in Congress and do some of that for a change.”

“The US is number one in incarceration and so many people have been dragged through the system over things like weed. It is devastating to them and their families and has negative longterm effects. The criminal justice system is very bad at public health and can not even keep the prisoners it already has which is 25% of the world's prisoners safe It does not need any more. Small farmers and shop keepers and ordinary marijuana users do not need the militarized police to stomp them as that is very very bad for your health and will give you PTSD and it alienates people from their public servants and elected officials.”

It is going to save us money but more importantly it will get some of our fellow citizens who are in our Gulag system out. However we have to have the other piece and that is assistance in getting them integrated back into the community. This is an issue about the nature of the society. Do we want to be one of mass incarceration with all of its disparity or do we want to try and govern and governed better?”

“Right now the marijuana laws are in conflict with the federal laws and that has created serious problem where some people have been targeted and incarcerated or have had their property seized. So it needs to be more orderly as the federal policy is also changed. Also each locality has different ways that they are dealing with the implementation of medical marijuana laws. There should be more conformity. What California needs to do is legalize and move the issue out of the criminal justice system. This is one of California's biggest crops. It has also been a cultural divide especially between the people and their public servants.”

David Flint on Jun 3, 2014 at 02:31:44

“So you think overhauling the law will get the feds to back off? That is a worthy goal. Our marijuana laws will always be inconsistent with federal law as long as it is legal in any form though.”

We can not continue to be so over criminalized and still claim to be the land of the free. Hard to do when you are number one in incarceration and you have 67 million people with criminal records. Going to have to start somewhere and marijuana is one of the places that makes sense.”

If their own endless hypocrisy was shown to them on the evening news maybe they would change their tune in the land of mass surveillance. Imagine if you went through the governments around the world and took a look in all their haystacks for all the dirt on all of these guys in the Good Old NY Boys club. A type of reverse mining. Just think of the stuff in their back pockets if they were forced to take it out in the open. “Absolutely. I think in open societies most of things should be done in the light of day by open process and with everybody having access to full due process. I also think with so much surveillance and manipulation we must look at the fact that we have 25% of all the prisoners. Also the financial manipulation. There are threads that connect them all. The idea that we should just trust them has them listening in to every call in the Bahamas and goodness knows what else. One Merkel moment after the other.. So we might have a problem with the people in the comfy chair after all.”

It's amazing more isn't made over attempted cover ups. Here in CA, the President of the state Senate shut off cameras in the middle of a debate regarding increasing taxes and got blasted for it and then issued a lame apology.

Okay now add in all the haystacks and all the partner agencies here and abroad and all the girlfriends, Stingrays, cars, and cash and the failure to go after the truly shockingly awful people and you can see why I am a clucking critic at this point. I think it a little outrageous we all have to go through this to get to here this way.The courts and law makers have been amiss. I still think that there are serious problems with how the legal basis for all of this is really going to look in the light. I am not very impressed by the oversight and how is this going to be deconstructed and sorted out in a way that is less destructive. Also there is the suppression and obstruction that is more than a little troubling...Two thumbs down.”

“I do not think anyone is advocating selling to minors. I certainly do not advocating using marijuana if you do not want to or for selling it to minors or on the street. This plant is already widely used and it is easy for young people to get it already. The government has not shown weed to be more dangerous than alcohol or tobacco. I live in California and we have medical marijuana and it looks like we will have marijuana on the ballot for full legalization in the Nov or on the 2016. You are free to have your own opinion but you will find more and more people who disagree with you because of the criminalization of weed and that impact on peoples' children as incarceration and criminal records are more dangerous for young people. The US is number one in incarceration and we have 25% of all the prisoners and their id disparity in prosecution and sentencing. So you know many are working to throw out the bad laws and replace them with better ones.”
