“You are right... it doesn't matter who our president is. In WWII, did Europe appreciate us helping them eliminate Hitler? Weren't we criticized for bombing Japan even though it was in retaliation to their attack on us? People around the world cry for us to save them and when we do, we are criticized and hated. We have even given money to help countries rebuild after war. Bush went after the easiest target. No one can win in Afghanistan unless we do what we did in Japan. President Obama is talking about doing something he has made sure we don't have the money for... cut money to the military and then go to war, because this will not end with "limited strikes". Mark my words (oh no, now I sound like my father).”

“What is Putin up to? That's my question. That guy is as big a snake as Assad, probably bigger. First he threatens the United States if we do strike Syria and now he's calling for Assad to turn over his chemical weapons? Something just isn't right. There is no love between Obama and Putin, why would he change his tune? Something is obviously going on behind the scenes.”

“International manipulation that's been traditional for centuries amongst dictators particularly.

Clearly this guy Putin speaks with forked tongue..... first he votes against international control and intervention (in the UN) --- creating a nightmare of political dissension amongst honorable ethical nations --- then when Obama steps up to the ethical position --- Putin flips the coin over --- right under our nose --- and claims he's on the other side of the coin.

Truly a Bad, Bad, person.”

“I was making a point not shoving my beliefs down anyone's throat. That person wants Christians who espouse their beliefs killed, here in the US. If it was a religious debate, I would try to convince you, but it wasn't and it turned ugly toward Christians and as a Christian, I can't let that go by. But for this purpose it was to make a point to the guy who said the comment wasn't clear. Now that I think about it, maybe he was being facetious. If we kept our religion private and personal, shouldn't we keep our politics the same. People always say don't talk religion or politics.”

Shamus Sherwood on Aug 19, 2013 at 16:18:03

“Both politics and religion get one into trouble sometimes, especially when the politics are the result of the religion. Look at the history of bringing Christianity to the new world and Africa. Didn't work out too well for the colonists. Look at the turmoil in the Arab countries where politics is based on religion. Part of the reason we believe in keeping politics out of religion in this country is to avoid such mistakes, but it creeps in anyway. I understand your point and your explanation and apologize if I came down too hard on you.”

Oh yeah, just borrow it from China. How do we give other countries money if we don't have any? I know those are not on the table for debate, but...”

The Middle East would decay and revert back to the middle ages, but the problem is the nuclear weapons these people have managed to get. Our GDP is about 15 trillion dollars, so while we owe out a lot we make an awful lot.”

“It's only a problem for other religions. They want to wipe out Christians. Christians don't want to wipe out other religions, they only want to show what they believe is a better way. Conflicts are fought over different reasons. Land, love, money, and religion. This is really not a religious conflict, though, is it? It's getting so every time you turn around Christian are blamed for uprisings that they are taking no part in, but they are being killed in. I read that 700 Christians have been slaughtered in this fray. 700 people just because they believe differently. The last time I've ever read that Christians started a war was in the 1100-1300. (The Crusades.) The government killed the MB sympathizers, not Christians.”

Beccs on Aug 18, 2013 at 22:35:47

“I'm not sure I blamed Christians for this conflict.  I blamed religion.  And, as I said, the last thing the people of Egypt need is more religion, whether it be some Christian sect, another variant of Islam, Scientology, Hinduism or any other.

And I'd also dispute tat the last conflict started by, or in the name of Christianity, were ther Crusades.  There have been far too many, right up into recent history, to make that claim.”
