“Ugh, the Luth. Church Missouri Synod -- one of the worst "mainstream" genres of xtianity. Readers may recall a LCMS person was punished for participating in a multi-denominational 9/11 memorial at Yankee Stadium. "Snycretism" (sp) they call it -- mixin' with non-LCMSers is a big no no for these dumb dums. I am glad for you that you escaped that luncacy.”

“True, but as Valerie Tarico has written here on HP, those "forward thinking Christians" are unlikely to speak up about it. There are two kinds of xtians these days: the "born again" ones who eagerly embrace this kind of bigotry and spew it on a routine basis, and the ones who do not approve of it but keep quiet either out of fear or tacit support. Either way, this latter group can be best described as the "Good Germans" of WW II.”

Cambridge9 replied on Jan 05, 2010 at 08:30:12

“Actually there were 'good' Germans during the 1939-45 conflict. I lived under the j@ckb00t and there were some of our 'occupational forces' who did their bidding in the knowledge that if they didn't it might just be their family who suffered - instead of ours.

Case in point. Our house was searched - for radios which were banned. My dad was a 'radio engineer' and a young officer found some 'illegal' meat salting on boards in one of our bedrooms. He asked my dad "Do ze autoritiz know bout dis?" My dad answered 'No, and I leave it to you as an officer and a gentleman that they don't get to know!" to which this young officer replied - "I wuz zent to look for radioz. You have my word!."

The authorities NEVER knew about what that officer found!”

“There is a passage in the book Patriot Reign by Michael Holley (p.4) in which Bill Belichick and his family are vacationing in Europe in the mid 90s and they saw dozens of Europe's old churches and a certain recurring icon. Brian B. turns to his dad and says "Who is this guy? We're seeing him everywhere."

That "guy" was J.C.

So if BB is no religious guy, how did JC let his team win 3 SBs, the first one over "His" ever-faithful servant Kurt Warner?

Come to think of it, maybe the fact that BB doesn't waste his time with "that hypothesis," he's better able to be a SB contender virtually every single year.”

“I just fanned you BrianMac. I had no idea Reggie White had regretted his public over the top evangelisation and on his sleeve xtianity. I am impressed how White was learning Hebrew to read the bible in its original form, with all its profoundly subjective translations and potential for multiple meanings. No surprise his faux xtian friends turned on him for this search for truth. I suspect his search for truth would have led him down the same path as Bart Ehrman and his book Misquoting Jesus.”
