'Youth In Revolt' Red Band Trailer (NSFW): Michael Cera As A Mustachioed Ladykiller

“Michael Cera as Nick Twisp--casting genius! I love the books, so it will be interesting to see how and in what ways they have to be toned down.
I will second checking out the book. In fact, check out the whole series: Youth In Revolt, Revolting Youth, and Young and Revolting, all by C.D. Payne.”

Meghan McCain Slams Hollywood For 'Hating Our Troops'
Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 20:25:40 in Media
“Fanned. I can't comment as to the actual quality of the movie, but it seems that Meghan McCain is arguing that movies shouldn't show the traumas of war; that we should go back to the days when John Wayne and his fleet, platoon or whatever triumphed over impossible odds with the loss maybe a gruff noncom and/or a promising young soldier with a blonde, blue-eyed sweetie waiting back home.
If that is indeed what McCain is arguing, then it is BS. I expect better of someone not only with her family background but of someone who has shown she's got a brain in her head from time to time. Frankly I think we as movie consumers are better for the movies following in the wake of films like The Best Years of Our Lives and M*A*S*H. There is a place for the hero epic--but there's an even bigger place for the honest portrayal of war and its effects.”

When Models Act: Who Should Stick To The Runway? (PHOTOS)

“Uma Thurman was a big oversight. ..I remember seeing her in Terry Gilliam's "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen ." Venus indeed--yummy! She's a solid if not great actress with a decent range.
Also, what about Cameron Diaz? Maybe like Uma Thurman she's been making movies so long people forgot she was a model once upon a time.”

Clearly McCaughey didn't learn after being pwned by Stewart and then Anthony Weiner, so maybe a rhetorical brute-force bludgeoning was in order.”

White House Calls Out Fox And Glenn Beck On Olympics
Commented Sep 30, 2009 at 19:22:56 in Politics
“Actually, sure. It's the sort of thing people can grasp simply and most people--su perficiall y--would be in favor of Chicago or any American city hosting the Olympics.
When you can frame it in terms of "Are you for the United States or are you rooting for Brazil (or Madrid, or etc.)" and score a palpable hit, why not?
Not that I'd have anything against Rio getting the Olympics if Chicago weren't in the mix. But if Chicago hosted the Games in '16, I'd have a realistic chance of being able to go to them, thanks to family in Northern Indiana and access from there to Chicago and back by train.”

“Mr. Peyronnin, I suggest you watch the Babylon 5 episode entitled "The Illusion of Truth" (season 4, episode 8). It predicts, with painful accuracy, the approach Fox News would start continually taking only a few years after the episode originally aired in 1997.
Or, if you can't spare 42 minutes, just watch Jason Sudeikis's skewering of Glenn Beck on Saturday Night Live. It takes about six seconds.
Either will explain--far better than I can--about why President Obama was entirely correct to bypass Fixed News.”

“Haven't seen Return to Oz but there are a whole series of L. Frank Baum Oz books that could be mined. Rather than make an unnecessary "Hollywoodized" sequel, you could either re-make Return to Oz with an eye toward building a franchise, or just start with the 3rd book.
Todd McFarlane is a pretty good comic book artist but as an impresario in any medium he leaves something to be desired. Yes, I'm still nursing grudges from the over-hyped Image Comics in the early 90s that McFarlane was at the heart of. Even if he did put out some decent issues of Spawn.”

Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie talked once about how he came up with the name Kaizer Soze for his villain in The Usual Suspects. At one of his jobs, McQuarrie met a man named Kaizer Sumay and thought it was cool. Though, in this case, Mr. Sumay declined the honor, McQuarrie thinks because when Sumay read the scene where his namesake it disturbed him a little. So name changes happen frequently.
Someone upthread mentioned legal departments checking names. I believe that is standard practice still.”
