“Sorry this is not a Civil Rights issue!! Please stop comparing it to my peoples struggle for equality! You are literally about to get every thing you want and ask for from this president. Where was all this venom when the Bush's and Reagan' abandoned you. Now you really expect this president who has only been in office for 10 months to bend to your time table. Get real!!!!!! This is the reason a divide is among African Americans and the gay community. Trust me it is very real, because I am an african american and I do not understand what more you want. Its legislation its the law. It takes TIME. DAMN stop crying like little 3 year old and go on with your lives,we have and see what happens when you do your part.Thing s happen. Truth be told it took us(African americans) over 100 years to get our justice and STILL to this day we do not have it. So your post makes no sense to me at all. Your struggle is and will not be our struggle. I can not hide being black. But I betcha I could hide being gay! SIMPLE AS IT SOUNDS BUT ITS TRUE for lack of a better word.”

“I'm sorry - saying "I cannot hide being Black, but I could hide being gay" is a bit like saying "but I could hide being Jewish".
The question of homosexuality in politics goes back long before Stonewall - could you, perhaps, be courteous enough to your fellow human beings to gain an understanding of the two hundred years of gays being thrown in jail under sodomy laws or being beaten or killed for being gay - or being perceived to be gay - before dismissing what LGBTs have to say?”

“Perhaps if the black community did not view homosexuality as a white mans perversion forcing black men further into the closet, then you would see more diversity in the audience.”

“Corretta Scott King held a different view from yours. She said:
"Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood ."
And
"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people. ... But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere .' I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream, to make room at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."”

“I too am African American and I'm not a member of the LGBT community. But I am offended by your implied suggestions that you can speak for all of us and that some folks should have to wait longer than others for the rights and respect all human beings deserve. The hatred and bigotry are the real reason there is "a divide" (as you call it) between the African American community and the gay community. Many in the African American community are extremely homophobic and many in the LBGT community are extremely racist. In reality, the LBGT community encompasses many African Americans and the African American community encompasses many LBGT persons. The venom you accuse other of spewing is reflected in your own comments. Check your isms at the door before entering conversations about human rights - yours or those of others.”

The truth be told we as african americans would not have this issue IF our ancestors were not brought here in the FIRST place.
Yes I refuse to paint everyone with a broad brush, but why as a black man do I have to always be the UNDERSTANDING one? Understand and respect my anger, because unfortunately lot of these protest are showing African Americans what still a large percentage of white america THINKS about us. Now that is real.”

“I am black and I really doubt it will happen in our lifetime. Simply being, there is too much money in racism.A country or people divided will always fall. If you really realize what is and who is at the root of this then you would really understand. We as african americans have been fighting this battle for centuries now. Hell there is still bull*&^% in the constitiution about me being not even a full man. Some in america want to dismiss slavery and the mental and physical stress and strain that has put on the black family The images of us with watermelon, big lips and bug eyes, chicken and dancing a jig for the "WHITE MAN". Black-faced images, seperate bathrooms, feeding our families off of the crap that was thrown away for the pigs. It all had a AFFECT. We as black people cannot run from those images, but have to learn how to strive for more in SPITE of those images. Because that is what alot of WHITE PEOPLE were raised to think we are and forever will be. That is: we are BENEATH THEM!!! They will never reconcile the fact that Obama is our president, how in Gods name did that happen is the first question in their mind?.
Love one another, progress in your life and dreams and goals.Forg et the bull*&^%!! We as black folks KNEW this was going to happen.Ask anyone of color and you won't be surprised by the answer. Yes we knew.”

Stop the whine! Get a new paradigm! Or emigrate to one of the African republics, where you will understand how bloody lucky you are to live in the U.S. I am biracial and tricultural, and have made it here in America, without wasting time wallowing in self-pity. There are so many blacks who simply do not share your defeatist attitude.”

LiteSleeper replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 18:39:56
“It's a deal breaker because what they have now is a bill that mandates that we have to buy insurance, that says that insurers will only be responsible for 74% reimbursement when today it is at least 80%, and that says the govt can't negotiate drug prices. So basically you have a bill that mandates the American people to pay more for less while giving them no alternative if the insurers don't live up to their promises to stop jacking up costs and rescinding policies. Do you feel like you can trust the same people who caused the crisis?”
scrzbill replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 18:35:43
“The Public option> First you would have to understand the government plan. The GP will be a pool of insurers the public can choose from to get their insurance. Same insurers that exist now, only they will be allowed to sell over state borders. Everyone will buy from the government plan. All are privately owned insurance organizations now. One organization to sell insurance will be added. That will be the public option. It is medicare for everyone. Those who cannot afford insurance will be placed on a sliding scale. It will run the same as other insurers. The rub is it will cost less than the present cost of being insured. Why? The overhead for medicare now is 1-2%. Overhead for privately owned is 12-20%. Answer public option?”
CommonSenseForChange replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 18:22:39
