“Statistics show that alcohol and cigarettes kill an infinitely larger amount of people than cannabis. Research shows that cannabinoids active cell apoptosis in brain cancer cells, protect the brain from neurological damage (thus potentially treating neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer), and has a myriad of other uses besides getting high.
Do you study statistics? I have taken several classes and I believe you are probably trying to make the case that correlation somehow proves causation.
Please explain yourself....”
“Hey why don't you go read the Quran, or the Bhagavad Gita, or the Rig-Veda, or the Tao Te Ching, or The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galazy for that matter.... All you can do is spew out nonsense from your little box, unaware of the thousands of different belief systems that contradict yours. Sad really.”
“Thus the point I am making that if food production decreased we might actually eat the food as opposed to wasting it. And I am not kidding myself, the US has the highest obesity rate in the world, people who immigrate here also become obese at an alarming rate because their bodies cannot handle the onslaught of crap food... GMO is only part of the equation, but it is an important place to start.”

“Again, all anyone has to do is eat healthy and exercise, it makes ZERO difference whether or not theyre eating GM food or not.”
Consider reading it...................................................................................
Gmo related toxins easily making their way past the (nonexistent) blood brain barriers of infants. I'll take a random guess and suppose that the incredible rise of cognitive disorders in America may not be totally caused by mercury, lead, other heavy metals (in addition to fluoride) alone, perhaps certain pesticides are neurotoxic. I never would have guessed.
And for the skeptical, how exactly can you disprove the findings of this study when they found the actual proteins of the altered dna in the bloodstream, oh wait you can't because it is obvious. The only reason there are not thousands of studies that shed light on the matter of GMO is because they are expensive, the genes are patented so the scientists must get permission, and most funding for GMO study comes from the producers of GMO themselves. Also most scientists do not want to have their career and work driven into the ground for exposing the truth, much like most economists spew crap onto paper and get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for further driving the market into oblivion.”
“Yep morbidly obese Americans die because they can't have their supersized coke with their FrankenFrizzles. Oh wait the us THROWS AWAY more food than some countries consume. My bad. My poor garbage can will starve to death.”

“do you have a relevant point to make?”
Farmer Guy on Oct 9, 2012 at 19:09:17
“You are correct in that obesity and our sedentary lifestyles are killing us but that has nothing to do with GMOs. It has to do with personal responsibility.
All first world nations are wasteful with food, please do not kid yourself.”
“Going by what you are saying now the previous statement that GMO is safe is unsubstantiated entirely. Given the fact that most of the research is biased, at best, GMO safety is unknown. However, the increased spraying caused by this method of farming is most certainly harmful socially and in regards to public health. Go take a look at all the farmers committing suicide because the roundup isn't working anymore yet they are still enslaved by Monsanto's trade agreement. Even if GMO food was safe, the practices of the companies that produce them are unsustainable and socially damaging.
Consider this concept: Science has not progressed far enough to create a new organism, so why are we tampering with a process we do not fully understand? Common sense would dictate that we shouldn't be creating GMO in the first place, we should be attempting to better understand how DNA actually works, not to mention how modified organisms change the balance of the environment they are introduced to. Because we do not fully understand the process of evolution either, we are essentially creating a risk with no reward (except for the companies that profit from GMO). Thus it is fundamentally wrong to support this method of farming, both ethically and scientifically.”

“There is very little risk in recombinant DNA technology if it is done correctly. Furthermore genetic engineering and synthetic biology have a huge potential to help the human race. Just ruling it out because you personally don't understand it is in my opinion the wrong decision. Learn more about how it works and the potential it holds. If you want a good book, read Regenesis, a book on synthetic biology just published by a Harvard geneticist. ”
“Bayer knowingly gave people AIDS and got a slap on the wrist. You think you are funny but we live in a time when corporations are literally own everything, including the government. It is the ignorance of the masses that allows this to be possible...”
NoraHuffposter on Oct 8, 2012 at 16:10:32
“I think you were intending the comment for the poster above. Nonetheless, I agree with you. It is the people who are willfully ignorant, and choose to remain in a state of childlike irresponsibility, who have given these corporations the power. They can rely on most people to buy and consumer their products without questioning. Those very masses will reserve their sole criticism for anyone who questions a corporation. It is nearly hopeless for any serious change to happen in this condition.”
“Also if it is GMO it more than likely has been swimming in roundup, which, by the way has additional surfactants not listed that have been found to synergize with the active ingredient making roundup much more hazardous to mammals than previously thought. The point of this proposition is for consumers to have the power to BOYCOTT GMO if they wise up and realize that these farming practices are not sustainable. When you by a product you are supporting the company who made it and their ethics. What happens when the horrible soil created by these practices finally gets taken over by even more pathogenic organisms. Or even worse, what happens when the soil turns to dust and ends up in the rivers (which it is at an alarming rate already). Is Monsanto going to make some new lab created soil, hahahahah. No they are going to make bank and when their current business venture fails they will move on to patenting your kidney because it resists the new cancer they created. Wake up everyone!!!”

“Monsanto needs to be taken out of existence .....BEFORE they take US out.”
“When this passes it will be hilarious because people will walk into the supermarket and nearly EVERYTHING will gave the gmo label.”
Y2KCockroach on Oct 8, 2012 at 15:33:29
“Sure, people may as well know that though.
Right now labeling requires indicating how many calories are in a food item. If I get to know how many calories are in it I want to also know if it was genetically modified before I put it into my body. Nobody is saying that people won't eat it, but people have a right to know what they are eating.
If you don't want to know what you are eating yo can always just decline to read the label. It's called being ign*rant of the world around you, and it seems to work just fine for some people...”
“Yeah why did the liberals take away our tumor factories!!!!!! I want to eat agent orange!!!!!! What about my kids, they want some too! How are we supposed to evolve if we don't severely mutate our DNA???? WE NEED MORE FINGERS.”
“You seem to ignore the studies where mice who eat gmo get internal lesions, become sterile, etc. Not to mention the prospect of the bacterial genes inserted into BT corn possibly changing the genetic composition of your gut flora. I guess as long as you don't burst into flames when you eat cornflakes it's safe right?”
Alexander Kenan on Oct 8, 2012 at 19:42:37
“I only consider studies that are well designed in my analysis of GMOs. So far I have come across a single study showing harm from GMOs and this was the recent study by a french research group that is simply bad science (small sample size, poor experimental design, incorrect statistical analysis and researcher bias). If you can point me to a single other study I will consider it. The bottom line is that the p value in science is accepted to be p > .95. This means that up to 1/20th of all papers will be incorrect in their assumptions. Therefore it is always important to go with the overwhelming majority of research when it exists (case in point global warming).”
“Seriously it should be illegal to "patent" something that existed before humanity. Noone has "Created" and actual new seed, they simply toy with it until fulfills legal duties for them. The sooner everyone realizes this crap is responsible for the rise in disease in this country the better.”
