Seething Dems Hit Back At Report That Public Option Is Dead In House

“Here's what happened when someone called blue dog Matheson's office in Utah (This is a letter to the editor that appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune):
"[The] letter "Complicated" (Forum, Oct. 6) reminded me of a conversation I recently had with Rep. Jim Matheson's office. I called to say that I supported a public option in the health reform bill and requested Matheson to support one. I was informed he would not. When I asked why, the person hung up.
I could not believe that someone whose office is to represent the people would hang up on someone from his district, so I called back. A different staffer answered, and I related what happened. He said that the public option was "dead" and that they were tired of people calling and "harassing" them about it. When I asked why that decision had been made, he also told me it was "complicated." I told him that Matheson was supposed to represent the people's wishes, that I expected them to at least listen to my concerns, and therefore I would think twice about voting for Matheson. He told me that this was "blackmail" to get my way and they didn't have to listen to me.
Apparently "blackmail" from voters without big bucks is not acceptable, but huge "blackmail" donations from heath care lobbyists are."”

“No re-enacting Glass Steagal would separate commercial and financial banks. He was to reenact Glass Steagal and prohibit the owning and trading of risky securities.”
