“We can blame Obama and ignore the real problems underlying the failed government or we can address the the root causes and support President Obama but hold him accountable.
The conservative movement has severely weakened our democratic institutions, underfunded the state and created a new class of astounding wealth that is concentrated in a handful of families. This money pours into right-wing lobby tanks under the guise of educational foundations and journalism to disseminated conservative policy to the public. These monied interests have one goal -- destroy the liberal state. It is extremely powerful.”

“I think the repubs have been successful at bringing down Obama fast. I'm not one who voted for him thinking he was going to change the world over night or ever, I do think he has great ideas and is going in the right direction. Giving up this early is giving in to useless banter.”

“Holding him accountable to the People - Seems like an impossibility after watching his bending to the desires of the Financial Aristocracy!
He is our President and we must find some way to make him responsible to the CITIZENS of the US!
We have to do the same thing with the Senate!”

“Look, I am not giving the Obama admin a free pass. I think this President has to take bold unprecedented steps to fix the legislative process and inform the public. This is a crisis. I honestly don't know what steps he should take, but something has to be done or we are all going down.
What scares me the most is the militia movement (teabaggers) gaining power. The Republicans have joined forces with thugs. It is a fascist movement -- and I don't like to throw the word around.”

“I share the sentiment BC. Please feel free to call me naive if you will but I don't think the teabaggers are going to gain power ever again. They may have a few unexpected victories here and there but the highest offices in the land will remain teabag free. Americans may be disillusioned with the Democrats this year but they are certainly not about to turn to the teabaggers for solace.”

Given the system we live under, are they currently the best we can get? (probably)
Is rejecting Obama as a corporate st00ge going to help our cause? (probably not)
If the teabagging tVangelicals take power the country is F*($ked”

“Well, I think it's easy to blame Obama and ignore the underlying reasons our government is failing.
Lets put it this way --
Twenty percent of the American public thinks it is in the top one percent of wage earners
In 2005, fifty-one percent of voters thought Saddam H was responsible for 9-11 .
Much of the public thinks tax cuts increase revenue and Fox is fair and balanced.
This is what the Obama admin is up against.”

He is critical, as he should be -- but he also understands complexity and is aware of the political reality. President Obama needs to be pushed, and he needs support. We should all be protesting (myself included).”

“I heard on the radio today that there had been a bill introduced that would have reworked the fillibuster. It was introduced several years ago but we could ask to have it presented again.
The fillibuster was originally intended to create more time for actual discussion, it was not meant to be a weapon. Under the new suggestion, you would still have the 60 vote override for (like) 3 days, The fillibuster could continue for three more days then it would take only 57 votes to override and should it go 3 more days it would take 54 votes to override. Anyway you get the drift. It would still allow for discussion but could not end the vote forever.
Seemed like a good idea to me. Can't remember which senator introduced it then.”
