“There is no such thing as a FN Herstal, beyond the company's location. The FN pistol of which you speak was NOT touted as you claim. The military/police round of which the ad speaks is and was intended only for military/police use, and is not available to civilians. Your deliberate ignorance of the facts speaks ill of you and of your efforts to end the private ownership of firearms.

“Lee, you haven't the foggiest notion of what constitutes a "back room" sale! Or, do you also call it that when you sell your child's undersized bicycle? How about when you have a garage sale? What about when you sell something on eBay?
A "back room" sale, by connotation, is an illegal sale for criminal purposes! Therefore, as I have no criminal intent, and do not sell to people I believe may have such intent, there is NO "back room" sale!
Monitoring of home sales or auto sales comes in filling out all the forms required. The government cannot stop me from selling my home or auto, but you advocate just that with respect to my guns. Big difference!!

Noone is advocating "back room" sales, which has a criminal connotation. What I advocate is that my property is MINE, and I do not give you permission to take control over my usage over that property!

Therefore, I suppose you fall into the category of folks who fall into one of those two areas. My property is MINE, not yours or the government's! But, I appreciate, as I'm sure do others, that you've categorized yourself for us.

“"And if there is no documentation, how does the FBI or anyone else know who buys what from whom?"
There are several methods for tracing firearms. One of the simplest is to ask the criminal where they got the firearm. In such a case it can reasonably be assumed that criminals would over report getting them from gun shows instead of ratting out a friend. And yet, the DoJ's numbers are that less than 2% of firearms used in crime came from gun shows.
And even if documentation existed a la FFLs, since the documentation is maintained by each seller for that particular sale, it does not make it much easier to tell who has what.”

“You may not have criminal intent, but by selling you guns to buyers who can't or aren't required to prove their legality or mental soundness, you are enabling irresponsible gun use. And "back room sale" only has criminal connotations in your fevered imagination. It's merely a euphemism for a sale that is executed "off the books". And as for government involvement in your other transactions, try barring someone from purchasing your home or car on grounds of race or religious persuasion, or perhaps without filing paperwork, and let me know how it works out.”

“leeclayton said "And if there is no documentation, how does the FBI or anyone else know who buys what from whom?"
And if the government does not monitor your emails, phone calls and internet surfing, how can the government stop terrorists from plotting or pedophiles from lurking, etc? We are a free society and individual freedom comes with risks to individuals. If you want to eliminate every possible risk, then you will have to surrender your freedoms, and even then you won't be safe from the leviathan you've created to protect you. If you or the Brady Campaign really gave two squirts about safety instead of control (guns are just the straw man), then you would advocate for making these wonderful Brady Background checks available to the general public. Instead, you want to eliminate private sales driving all sales to FFLs that will perform the FFLs so you can then focus all your attention on turning the screws on them to reduce their numbers drastically just like you did in the 90s. Just admit that you don't really care about guns, but you are afraid of people and want everyone else monitored and controlled constantly for your safety. Either that or you like Helmke enjoy the power trip of controlling others lives.”

“"Back room" sales are any that involve the transfer of firearm ownership without documentation. And if there is no documentation, how does the FBI or anyone else know who buys what from whom? If you assert your right to sell your guns to whomever you choose, regardless of their legal or medical status, you are indeed advocating that right for anyone to do it, felons included. And, by the way, automobile sales and home sales between private parties are monitored, and, to a large degree, controlled by the government. By your standard, you may at some point have been complicit in anti-American activity without realizing it.”

Please drop the nonsense, and give some cogent argument.
