“You seem to have made this about me ... as opposed to the alleged facts in the article. Did you read it ?? I didn't duck behind anything except making a living. I briefly posted my thoughts or objections while taking a coffee break. Since this occurred - there has been sufficient and eloquent objection to Taibbi's article by more prominent fact checkers than me.

“If time permitted I would explain my disagreement with Taibbi's article in great detail. I like Taibbi, generally speaking, although I think that he's more culturally relevant than intellectually stimulating.

That being said ... this article has more holes than a sieve and uses the same type of specious arguments as the extremists on the other side. This is quid pro quo rabble-rousing and not a journalistic endeavor with merit.

I'm starting to believe that these articles are becoming more about promoting the Taibbi brand by serving an entree of spectator sport controversy than it is about altruistic journalism.

“It's not only the FOX brand of news-ish shows that cater to ideologues not unlike CNN. These broadcasters cater to the terminally misinformed and hero worshipers. They deal in information that advances their mediaplex interests and the advertising revenue goals of their shows. To that end, their lack of honesty and manipulative marketing schemes are almost understandable. They play the suckers.

The major terrestrial-cable megaplex, however, is ALL owned at least in great part) by companies that when one connects all the dots - are actually directly connected to the same military industries. These were the anti-trust worries of Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine. This is not forgivable - because eventually - they do what is in their overall, very patient and very greedy hands. They shape the perception of news with Tin Soldiers that are essentially commercial advocates and lobbyists. These aren't just short vignettes that are random. These talking heads are part of a serious and complex program of promoting to marketing demographics that dangerously influence an already compromised public opinion.

“Au contraire - there is a story here. It's the story about casual disregard for propriety and long standing tradition of disqualifying oneself from making any such recommendation without a substantial and public disclaimer akin to recusal in jurisprudence.

In this case, such a disclaimer was inconvenient for Baucus because of the complications of his marital condition. Ultimately, this should be a red-flag about the Senator's future, as should performance and lack of public service leadership in crafting a Senate Healthcare bill.

Max Baucus has painted a portrait of himself as a special interest spokesman. Generally we refer to them as pitchmen or lobbyists. This is not to say that he's the worst of the pack - we've seen the lobbying free-for-all in the GOP under a lot of scrutiny, inspired by the Bush White House. However, that is every reason not to tolerate even a scintilla of this under a Dem majority.

There is a list of these dinosaurs in both parties that have become insulated from an electoral ejection because of corruption at a local level and it seems as though they are dismissing us as inconvenient and annoying - us - the people for whom they work, and we as citizens do ourselves injustice when we permit corporate lobbyists to pose as public servants, irrespective of Party.

Actually, NO Binxi, there is no story. Perhaps you have overlooked the Bush administration, who only ruled for 8 years, and whom made it Federal law that they would not accept public biddings for contracts or appointments of any kind, instead, rewarding their friends and benefactors with cost-plus contracts?

“First, I don't think that the MSNBC mention is relevant. That's not news. FOX portrays itself as FOX News. T?his was about a News broadcast.
Secondly, Axelrod is not a jouranlist, he's a partisan appointed official. Period. He speaks for the Administration ... he is the object of news reports not a reporter - another point that seems irrelevant. That covers our disagreement. Now to where we agree. The report should have started with a disclaimer. Indeed. That was precisely my point - with the exception that you said it better.

“I see this differently. In the days of actual journalism, it would have been the news directors purview to decide to run the piece or not. It doesn't matter how an interview is arranged or if it is happenstance. There is a maturity that is required to work in journalism - that's what sets it apart from graffiti. To air the piece without a balancing interview, in these circumstances was irresponsible and manipulative.

In the end - these aren't journalists - these are info-tainers on the field, in uniform, playing parts in a huge political / sporting event. These are professionals. What precisely their profession is - may be a bit of a mystery - but to the truest sense of the word they are professionals. They entertain for money and promote their product - which is controversy not news reporting - to their eager customers.

“Do you think that MSNBC does not the same thing on an opposing spectrum? Just because you disagree with a report doesn't mean it's not news. That only works for David Axelrod.
I agree with you in only that blaming the news director may be prudent...The report should have started with a note claiming that only one of the two candidates could be contacted. That was the responsibility of the news director. And I'm not sure how often you've been on a national news broadcasting set, but if you do visit you will see that for the most part, the on-air talent is not the director.”

Lou Dobbs Describes Meatless Mondays In Schools As "A Political Storm In The Making"

Commented Oct 21, 2009 at 13:08:38 in Green

“This is a fascinating story. Not fascinating in the fact that it is manufactured controversy, but astounding that the characterization of the school district's intent is manipulated by the actual reporter based on an interview with an official of the Meat Institute, followed by a brief commentary by the ostensibly voracious carnivore Lou Dobbs, who took the opportunity to wave the "Political Storm" flag .

Not unlike Dobb's round-table when he surrounds himself with professional lobbyists and touts as Alex Castellanos - who are representing health insurance companies in their day jobs - yet pose as CNN Analysts even though they are actually earning millions of dollars a year by delivering a message of their clients as though it were the result of independent analysis - this story calls for the Meat Institute to pipe-in their altruistic objections i.e. - "should be a decision of parents." This is CNN the Costco of Journalism - pre-chewing the fat for you so you don't have to lose calories thinking.

So in this brief story we learn that a school district in order to save money, promote health and awareness has instituted one-day a week where they won't be serving meat - and the Meat Institute is not having any this bologna.

This week a shout-out to Thomas Paine - spinning in his grave as though it were a rotisserie.

“Ah ...you've nailed it. But it isn't that the news isn't picked up ...it's not put out. Because the Corporate News Media is dependent upon commerce in order to be profitable.

So they have actually created an environment where telling the truth in news, particularly when it is about very bad corporate practices harming Americans, is akin to voluntarily shooting themselves in the financial foot. By engaging in 'investigative journalism' or any journalism for that matter - they risk violating advertising agreements that very few people know about if they aren't directly involved in media.

News organizations have transformed themselves into highly profitable lobbying adjuncts by selling out an entire professional classification and the public service that was accredited to it for corporate distinction, big pay-checks and a mission that amounts to little more than the ministry of propaganda. Very sad, very dangerous.

Commented Oct 08, 2009 at 18:12:06 in Politics

“Speaker Pelosi couldn't have been more clear in her response - but the corporate media is tone deaf and doesn't appear poised to actually write the story.

Pelosi's words "That language is something I haven't heard in decades."

Indeed we haven't heard language like this in decades, although the target of oppressive words such as that was different decades ago, it was minorities, specifically African-Americans. But recently we've heard much of it from the "right." Although the most troubling element of this latest sortie of assaults on Pelosi is that the Republican Women are silent and not rebuking the good ole boys.

It is simply astounding to watch adult Americans, who happen to be elected officials, supporting in their silence, a most disturbing trend in politics; the corporate media grateful for the carnage; ultimately the American people, regardless of stripe, paying the price, both figuratively and literally.

The corporate news media would much rather investigate Steele's latest gaffe or spoonerism than practicing journalism.
