“8 U.S. Code § 1401 - Nationals and citizens of United States at birth:
(a) a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.
If you commit a crime, even a disgustingly heinous one you are still a citizen with full rights to habeus corpus, to legal representation, and to appeal to higher courts. Rejoice! This is a good thing and one of the best legal philosophies we stole from the brits!
My argument does not assume every person born here is a good person....that was neither stated nor implied so try to avoid stuffing words down my throat, even when it benefits your argument.....*especially when it benefits your argument*
Not saying he deserves clemency for his actions not even saying that the death penalty wasn't warranted. I am saying and will continue to say as an American, the manner in which this execution was performed is criminal. Read the word. Criminal.”

“Not saying it was not botched, it was, but not criminal. He was found guilty sentenced to die in the most comfortable method that went bad. Not sure where you are going here?”
“Generally speaking when I refer to society or civilization, I mean all of humanity as a whole. We "have" advanced past it. There are plenty of countries on earth that have advanced beyond it. The U.S. is just too old (old people, not the country) and too proud to think that apart of our philosophy could be done differently.”
pattio66 on May 21, 2014 at 07:43:21
“The problem isn't that some people are old, the problem is that some people - and I include myself here - have far more important things to worry about than whether someone who has committed heinous crimes against "all of humanity" is put to death for them. That someone who robbed, repeatedly raped, shot, stabbed, and then buried alive a teenage girl was executed doesn't get my dander up. At all. Rapist/murderers just don't give me the warm fuzzies.”
“Do you advocate the use of torture against citizens?
Making sure you understand your own argument.”
Piper Stark on May 4, 2014 at 10:21:40
“knowing the date of your execution is torture in general. I believe when one kills another human being.. they are in volition of civil liberties of another person and According to the constitution.. can have their life taken away as long as the full process of the law takes place- in which case this did... 8th amendment doesn't apply here because the intent was not there. he should have gone with firing squad. he chose it. there is always a risk involved.. he took the risk- this time it didn't work out painlessly (but we are not really sure if he would feel that pain anyway, just because you are knocked out and you ability to move is taken away doesn't mean you don't feel the pain anyway)”
howmuchwasthat on May 3, 2014 at 09:21:34
“A murdering rapist is not a citizen, figure out what a citizen is first. Your argument assumes that every person born here is a good person. Your so wrong.”
“We advanced philosophically as a society past it.”
pattio66 on May 2, 2014 at 18:17:08
“Past what? If you refer to capital punishment, obviously we haven't. So you must be referring to the firing squad method of execution, which is still instantaneous. And bullets are cheap, plentiful, and easily obtained.”
“Thats rough. Right letter to your congressman, don't form a militia because you don't want to pay your legal dues. You live in a republic, a republic has laws you agree to respect at birth as part of the social contract.”
“Sorry 1000 men? Unacceptable and criminal. The next letter should be to the governor reque-demanding the national guard be sent in to keep the peace.
A 1 day order should be given to this militia to cease and desist such unlawful activities and to disband as an unlawful force that restricts free passage of citizens. If they dont, send in the guard. If people die its unfortunate but necessary. This is a precedent that shouldn't be established as a status quo.
Lest other separatist elements (looking at you Texas), start (and fund) more Crimea style armed occupation groups.”

“African American is politically correct, (meaning someone can't get poised off for you calling them that), black is an socially accepted colloquial metaphor.
Negro, whether or not old people still identify with it does not further explain ancestry any better than African American and under the wrong connect is considered offensive.
Caucasian is not the equivalent of Negro because it designated a region of ancestry. Caucasians descended from the humans that once inhabited the Caucus region of Asia. African Americans are Americans who's ancestry came from Africa.
“Romney also doesn't specify what ships he was built. One thing I'd especially love to point out is that THE NUMBER OF SHIPS YOUR NAVY HAS IS COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT AND NOT STRATEGIC.
Does Romney want more Light Carriers? Super Carriers? Frigates? Corvettes? Submarines? Cutters? LHA's? One has to ask what purpose a ship will serve in a strategic environment against a foe and decide how to respond. Otherwise Romney needs to admit that his Navy building plan is just a stimulus package for Virginia's 13 electoral votes.”
“The purpose of the military is to prosecute military objectives. A foot solider is simply a cog in the wheel. It is through the proper arrangement of firepower and the footsoldier that these objectives are accomplished. If a military objective can be accomplished without ground forces, (IE: Cruise Missiles, Armed Drones hitting strategic targets without endangering ground forces.), then we can begin to dialogue as to what is a strategic military planning perspective.”

“Duh Lady Gaga is bigger than Die Antwoord. I do hope though that that isn't how you decide what you listen to. Just because music is popular doesn't make it good. I'm Too Sexy made number one on the charts, but it was still just a song about models being too sexy for their shirts.
Die Antwoord doesn't care what other people think of them, in fact you talking about them right now just validates them. They're presently finishing up a tour of the US so I wouldn't exactly call them washed up. They're still on their first wind.”
“Again....how did they get Surface to Air Missiles?
What does Ukraine gain by shooting down its own helicopters?
Occams Razor people.”

“Are you excluding the possibility that there are not mercenaries or saboteurs in the ground?
How did the Kiev protestors acquired their guns and invaded - occupied the government buildings till this writing?
I am not saying that Kiev protestors were bad and these are good because I am strongly in favor of a neutral Ukraine with all Ukrainians united.
Attacking protestors with helicopters, missiles, jet fighters etc is criminal and does not solve any problem. The idea of this government to attack the protestors is bad and their action will only push every resident to demand independence and annexations to Russia”
“I question who killed these "tons of people." Who's interests were served? Did it help the government position or the rebellion? If you conclude that the deaths helped the revolution then who do you attribute the killing to? Why does America support the current government of the Ukraine while it did not support the democratically elected government that was overthrown? Too many questions, not enough answers I think.”

“Dont equate the U.S. government with the media, the media's job is to make money, obviously there is a conflict of interest.
Its not saying the Russian economy its collapsing, just that its growth projections have receded.
If investors think they will loose capital investing in Russian industries due to US sanctions, they'll take their money out of Russian industries. Simple as that.
If your worried about your rubles forex position depreciating, you'd drop the ruble and choose a more stable currency to trade.
(Then wait for it to drop and buy it back, banking on the crisis being resolved.)”

“"Its not saying the Russian economy its collapsing, just that its growth projections have receded."
That's not a definition of recession. The technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a country's GDP.”
“Russia can't afford (nor is conventionally capable) of doing to us what Japan dod during WW2.
You are correct however, tensions are high. That's pretty common in Europe when sovereign countries are invaded.”

“Japan did not even try to inflict harm on the US, just tried to break the illegal blockade which starved Japan from resources and oil from its normal trade partners in S.E. Asia. Russia is much more capable and has defeated more powerful(relative to the time) armies than the US.
It could cripple the EU which would break apart NATO without firing a shot. Russia, and China both have the capability of shutting down communications, internet and sat nav, again without firing a shot. It has both air defenses and tactical theater nukes. It has excess of a million man army concentrated in defending the country, not spread over 1000 bases over the world in countries that have nothing to do with the US. They are entirely different armies. One is defensive and defending their own country and the other is thinly spread over the whole world not defending the home country.
That is why those who know about such things and history seem to think the US will be biting off more than it can chew. 20,000 ill-equipped irregulars without communications, air defense or aircraft was able to fight the US to a draw in both Iraq and Afghanistan and a major defeat in Viet Nam. The neo-cons who dictate foreign US policy and which countries get attacked will bring a lot of misery to the US. The civil war will be the US against some determined East Ukrainians and the Ukraine army will not be involved.”
