Inside The Lives Of Amazon.com Warehouse Employees: Long Hours, Long Walks, And Heavy Lifting (PHOTOS)
Commented Dec 11, 2009 at 11:20:32 in Technology
“I am not sure what the assumptions for this article are: When someone works for pay, he/she must WORK, whatever that may entail. Nowadays, in southeast Ohio, there are people who knock on doors to offer to do ANY work, which mostly ends up being rough physical labor such as cutting down trees. God knows how many doors these people must knock to get someone to give them something to do. I have a lot more respect for them than those whining over how hard it is to work for amazon.com. Trying knocking on doors for a change and see what that'll get you--after all, amazon.com is not holding anybody hostage.
Don't blame on technology or anybody else: If all of amazon.com's employees still worked on farms, they'd be doing a lot more than walking a few miles and lifting heavy stuff--and NO overtime pay. In a bad year, draught, flooding, hail, or what-not, who would they sue then?”

Weekly Churchgoers Are Down With Obama

“What a bogus article! Such a complex issue reduced to a few numbers.
Did the author thought about other possibilities? Perhaps people take up odd jobs on weekends to make ends meet? Perhaps people can connect to their god(s) without necessarily through the church?
Can someone tell the author to read "How to Lie with Statistics"?”

Michelle Obama: Bo Is A "Crazy" Dog
Commented Apr 23, 2009 at 13:19:15 in Style
“The first time I saw the dog leading ahead of the kids and Mrs. Obama, I knew they had no idea how to train a dog. Perhaps it is time to get a trainer in, such as Cesar Milan, and become an example for new dog owners all over the country. I love the Obamas, but, for heaven's sake, don't blame the dog.”
Myshkin57 replied on Apr 23, 2009 at 14:21:34
“I agree. If that dog was with a trainer and is still pulling them around like that, they need a new trainer. Six months is young, but old enough that it should be walking on a leash a bit better than that if a competent trainer is working with him.”

21 Polo Horses Die At Florida Match
Commented Apr 21, 2009 at 09:17:20 in Green
“It's time to look into these "sports" and the unnecessary suffering brought on the animals themselves as well as animals connected to these so-called sports. Vicks got convicted for dog fighting, and rightfully so. What about these horses, the "wet-nurse" horses and their fouls cruelly taken away from them (so they can nurse the purebreds)?”
hartkid replied on Apr 22, 2009 at 14:03:27
“BlueAsh, I was going to gently point out that you don't know what the f you're talking about, but then I went to your profile to see if maybe you were just being sarcastic or playing the idiot. I couldn't help but notice that all of your comments were marked by a shocking lack of general knowledge, bizzare flight of logic and pure emotional reaction. Critical thinking is not your strong suit, to put it nicely. Also, it was a good thing your dog went 12 hours without eating before surgery. I'm sure he was hungry, but he also shouldn't eat before surgery. asphyixiation on his own vomit would not have been a good result for him or you, I suspect. Also, if they were opening his bowel, a bunch of feces erupting out is also not good for doggies. Read some books before you comment again.”
hartkid replied on Apr 22, 2009 at 13:49:59
“Well, when a mommy horse has a "foul," they usually get rid of it quickly. Sell it off for chow. I have heard that they might start keeping fouls and training them for "special" polo and other "special" equestrian events. Might just be a rumor.
As far as I know they wouldn't even use a foul for a horse fight to the death like the dog fights that "Vicks Vapo Rub" was having.”

Alirocks replied on Apr 22, 2009 at 13:18:36
“Do not assume that because some people are guilty of mistreatment that all involved in equestrian sports do as well. I have been riding for about 15 years and everyone I know that partakes in polo and eventing treat their horses like kings and queens. And don't think the horses don't enjoy their sports as much as their riders either! People bitten by the "horse bug," as some people call it, would never tolerate mistreatment of these beautiful animals. I'm assuming you don't ride or don't have constant contact with horses, as you would know that.”
biglover replied on Apr 21, 2009 at 10:48:39

Tempest In A Tea Party: The "Daily Show" Takes On Teabaggers (VIDEO)
Commented Apr 16, 2009 at 14:56:32 in Comedy
“These tea-bagger parties aren't "spontaneous" grass-roots events. Some Republicans in Congress talked about expecting something big related to tea parties--quite some time ago.
What's amazing is that they actually get coverage. Remind me of the anti-war protest in Washington, D.C. in 2003--over a million people protested against the war, and that evening, they shared equal tv time with a handful Bush supporters.
What's wrong with this country's media?”

“Bull. The Republican Party and Fox News are trying to jump on the bandwagon and make people think the Tea Parties are just anti-Democrat. They're just the latest incarnation of a grassroots movement that started with the Ron Paul campaign. We're against both parties equally, as both support unconstitutional policies just as perpetual war, unwarranted surveillance, and reckless spending. Just because some crazy people have jumped on the wagon, doesn't mean the direction the wagon was going is wrong.”

Legalizing Marijuana More Popular Than GOP Leaders
Commented Feb 23, 2009 at 15:51:12 in Politics
“He's got bigger battles to fight at the moment. But unlike Bill Clinton, Obama not only admits that he's smoked marijuana, but that inhaling "was the point." When you think about it, it is quite significant that his admission played little part in this recent election, whereas it almost became a major issue for Bill Clinton. So time does change.”
Legalizing Marijuana More Popular Than GOP Leaders
Commented Feb 22, 2009 at 23:31:49 in Politics
“A couple of months ago, a dozen 20 year-old college students spontaneously got into a heated debate over the merits/pitfalls of legalizing marijuana--part of the same debate in which many of them reminded the others that candidate Obama was a secret Muslim.
I was really shocked by how these otherwise politically conservative youths openly mocked the war on drugs.
At first, there was something incongruent (to me at least) about voting Republican and supporting the legalization of marijuana. Yet, these 20 year-olds, who practically supported every single (right-wing) conservative cause on the ballot, saw nothing unreasonable, let alone wrong, about the legalization of marijuana.
That's when I realized that the election was only the tip of the iceberg of how out of touch with reality these Republican loonies and the right-wing extremists were with this country. Either that or these right-wing conservatives were total hypocrites. Or both.”

What Sentence Diagrams Reveal About President Obama
Commented Feb 18, 2009 at 19:45:56 in Politics
“I actually don't think Obama uses the word "but" cleverly to evade confronting a controversial issue. He is a complex thinker who sees many dimensions to a problem and has, from the very beginning, refused to reduce complex issues to a soundbite.
It is fortunate that people in this country, at this moment, are very receptive to complex thinkers (perhaps out of fear and anxiety). The fact is, those who are in the media, politics, or education should encourage people to learn to appreciate complexity in life and encourage people to think higher level thoughts.
Otherwise, sentence diagrams mean absolutely nothing.”

Obama Abandoning 'War On Terror' Catchphrase
Commented Feb 02, 2009 at 08:34:24 in Politics
“Not a minute too soon!
This whole idea of "war on terror", while a feel-good phrase, has been poorly defined and taken on a very negative connotation. At a time when the US has engaged in unilateral wars, responsible for massive civilian deaths, and tainted by human rights abuses, "war on terror" comes across as hypocritical, hollow, and damning. I am glad it is going out the window along with the Bush policies and cronies.”

Digital TV Transition Delay: House Defeats Bill, February 17 Deadline Intact
Commented Jan 28, 2009 at 21:19:00 in Media
“It's a lot easier to enforce control of digital signals than analog ones. Digital signals require sophisticated technology to broadcast and specific decoding technology for people to receive. Not only do we need to pay for new equipment *and* subscribe to cable or satellite services, but we are paying money so that we can only receive signals that we are permitted to receive (not that anyone can broadcast anything now).
Along with Kindle, digital-only tv tightens the control over our access to information and knowledge.
I always loved the story and the movie "Fahrenheit 451;" I knew book burning as an effect way of control in an authoritarian society. But I never imagined that social control, in the age of technology, could happen in this way: with our consent and our money.”
