“It doesn't have to be that way...we could have laws and policies that provided better and more jobs for Americans. For instance, a higher minimum wage, and penalties for shipping jobs overseas.
But...our economic and tax policies favor only the rich, and not the American worker.”

“"But...our economic and tax policies favor only the rich, and not the American worker."
AMEN TO THAT Gary. May I suggest you purchase and read the eye-opening book "America: Who Really Pays The Taxes?" (I believe it's still available at http://www.amazon.com). This book, written by the Pulitzer Prize winning duo of Donald Barlett and James Steele, is a POSITIVELY JAW-DROPPING EXPOSE of how our tax system is TOTALLY RIGGED against common working class people like you and me. Always remember: you DO NOT win a Pulitzer Prize -- one of the MOST COVETED AND SOUGHT AFTER awards in journalism -- like Barlett and Steele have if your facts don't check out (and mark my words, the bibliography at the end of this book is VERY LONG).”
“I was living in a small town then, and remember how "patriotic" WalMart was in the early days...much of their merchandise was advertised as "Made in the USA".
That was before those good all-American "job creators" started creating millions of jobs in Communist China. Now, it's painfully obvious that they do not care about American jobs, or American workers. Good for Portland to kick them to the curb.”

“I remember the American Flags on everything and the "Made by Americans for Americans" slogan. Now even the American Flags they sell are made in China.”

“"Now, it's painfully obvious that they do not care about American jobs, or American workers."
And here are the fundamental Economics 101 equations that explain why Gary:
“That might be relevant...if there were any "Communist unions" involved in this story.
Turn off Rush, and get a clue or two.”

“All unions are communist. The basis of union is communal well being. No one is rewarded more or less than anyone else for the same job. If that isn't the basis for all communism then you need to re read the dictionary and encyclopedias. Any group that uses its collective authority to infuence falls under that same heading. In my opinion that includes all these trade and government unions are the same.”
“Under a strong Democratic super-majority, the state of California has balanced its budget, and is in a strong fiscal position moving forward.
Of course, you'll never hear that reality on Fox "News".”

“The state of California has run deficits for years. It likely will run deficits again in the near future. Brown finally will have a modest surplus due to a retroactive income tax increase passed in November of 2012, and a regressive increase in sales taxes. The Democratic super- majority is already chomping at the bit to spend the money, and Brown has held the line for now. The state currently has debt of $424B. If you account for California's pension obligations the state is in very poor financial condition. That is why the rating agencies rate California's debt poorly, and the spread on it's debt relative to treasuries is among the widest of any state.”

“You were saying...
"California defines "balanced" as the state's having enough revenue to pay for the 2013-14 budget's appropriations. However, their budget ignores some very real obligations that, if recognized, would put the state many billions of dollars in the red.
The obligations being ignored include the California State Teachers' Retirement System's declaration that it needs $4.5 billion more per year to maintain solvency, and more than $50 billion in unfunded liabilities for state retiree health care.
Both of those debts (that's what they truly are) are growing by millions of dollars each day, as is the $10 billion that the state has borrowed from the federal government to prop up its insolvent Unemployment Insurance Fund."
“If Bundy wants to be considered a "civil disobedient", he is free to do so...and, to suffer the consequences, like Rosa Parks did.
Time will tell, but it seems to many thinking Americans that Bundy is a self-centered old coot, who wants to provoke a fight with the government that he hates.”

“No I think this is about the Federal Government controlling most land out West and the West wants to be more like the East where they control the land within their states borders. Seems like a normal and understandable beef and if you ever dealt with the BLM or Army Corps of Engineers you would be aware of their intimidation and harassment.
Also the court order said seizure not inhumanly slaughter the cattle.”
