NASA scientists say 2012 was the ninth warmest of any year since 1880, continuing a long-term trend of rising global temperatures. With the exception of 1988, the nine warmest years in the 132-year record all have occurred since 2000, with 2010 and 2005 ranking as the hottest years on record.”
“I live in Pennsylvania so I'm not surprised. The bright side is it's looking like my fellow Pennsylvanians are ready to kick Corbett to the side of the road. I hope they do the same to a lot of the Republican members of the legislature.”
“You demonstrate that you don't understand how health insurance and health care works.
Just like before ACA, if you went to a participating provider (doctor, lab, hospital, etc.) they agreed to accept the insurance reimbursement plus you're copay as payment in full. If you went to a non-participating provider the deductible was higher, the reimbursement from the insurance company was less and you were responsible for the full difference. It's the same now.”

“You're right. Only difference is that now, the reimbursement from 404care will be even less, meaning if you want to go to the same doctor, you have to pay even more.”
“One of the reasons medical providers enter into contracts with insurers and agree to accept the reimbursement plus co-pay as payment in full is that it gives them a large payment base. If you've ever received an Explanation of Benefits from an insurer for a charge from a network medical provider, you may have been shocked at small level of reimbursement.
If these doctors don't participate they are likely to see their patient base getting smaller and smaller.”

“Some are retiring. Some will enter into cash only arrangements with patients. I am betting that some will even start medical tourism businesses.”

“People will still need healthcare. They'll just have to pay even more to compensate to doctor to make up for the low levels of 404care compensation. So much for 404care reducing costs.”
“I don't know if this is still true but back when I was doing employee benefits and implementing systems like SAP and Peoplesoft, every insurer had their own proprietary system so that data transfer had to be tailored for each insurer. I can understand there can be problems with as many insurers as the ACA is dealing with.”
“Steve Kings supports animal abuse and evidently so do the farmers he represents. Evidently they want to be free to abuse their animals.
Those higher standards for farm animals living quarters were things like requiring egg producers to provide caged egg-laying hens with the luxury of space to stand up and spread their wings. Think about that for a minute. They want these birds to spend their lives never standing or flapping their wings.
King's amendment would also repeal similar bans in other states, like the one passed in 2002 by two and a half million Floridian voters against gestation crates for pigs and a 2006 Arizona law banning both gestation and veal crates.

“We have had strange weather here in NE PA. We're having big swings in the temps. We go from high temps in the 40's and 50's to highs in the 20's.
I did see more wooly bear caterpillars this year when I was raking than I've ever seen before. They're supposed to be an indicator of a cold winter.”

“i saw many too and we had a few August nights in the 40's where I live this year.It was bizarre. We all thought it meant a cold winter and we have had some unusually cold days already but don't know about this winter.”
“McDonalds says they'd have to raise prices if they increased the minimum wage. But what did they do when the tripled the current CEO's pay from $4.1 million in 2011 to $13.8 million in 2012. But they didn't stop there. The former CEO's pay package went up to $27.7 million from $8.8 million the year before, reflecting a $10.2 million payment as part of his retirement under his contract agreement.
But they can't afford to pay the workers a livable wage. Pathetic.”

“Raise the minimum wage and watch how long that job is around you will be replace by a machine already fryers are automated, Cashiers, Waitresses and Cooks are next, They do not ask for something that will cause the business to loose customers since the business will have to raise the cost of the product to cover the cost of the raises. These workers need to learn about Franchises”

“And Republicans are still working hard to deny insurance to millions of people. I don't understand why they have such antipathy toward people having medical insurance but it's part of their psychological makeup. Remember how they fought tooth and nail several years ago against coverage for kids under SCHIP.”
“Can't say I'm surprised but I remember when Medicare Part D was enacted and not only did it have problems with enrollments but people went to pharmacies expecting their prescriptions would be covered only to be told there was no record of their coverage. It was so bad 18 states stepped in to cover the costs of prescriptions until it could be fixed.”

It is just that the opposition is loud and well funded.”
“I think the WH should get out ahead of the next potential problem - a delay in getting out the insurance ID cards.
With what we're hearing about the insurers getting incorrect or garbled data, I wouldn't be surprised in insurance ID cards aren't sent out until later in January. The WH should just announce that there could be a delay and tell them what to do if they need medical care before they receive the ID card so that people aren't all in an uproar again and the Republicans aren't all over the news with "trainwreck" again.”
“The latest case against the ACA threatens the subsidy. Oral arguments were heard on Tuesday in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. It's a case brought by conservative small business owners in states that use the federal exchange. They claim that the wording of the law prohibits the subsidy for people in their states signing up on the federal exchange. The ACA only specifically mentions subsidies for exchanges "established by the state," so, therefore, the federal exchange can't grant subsidies.
“Another frivolous lawsuit. The states have exchanges, some states just chose to have theirs built by the federal government and operated by them- but they remain, state by state exchanges, with insurance companies competing for business by offering different policies and prices on a state by state basis, they are still overseen by state insurance commissioners etc.”
