Tiger Woods Injured In Car Accident (PHOTOS)
Commented Nov 28, 2009 at 14:23:20 in Sports
“Woods has been very protective of his image so this is all the more shocking if the reports are true and they sound like they could be unless he had an early morning flight somewhere. It didn't make sense that you could have an accident while still in your driveway unless he was distracted. Goes to show that fame, fortune, and world wide adulation still aren't enough for some people. Part of Tiger's problem is not his doing but our doing and the media. We are living in the cult of celebrity in the U.S. and media accentuates that aura of worship. When Tiger is on the course the announcers talk about him as if he is God himself playing. I don't blame Woods for this. He has done wonders for golf and is truly one of the all time greats if not the greatest golfer of all time.”

“Her book is selling very poorly here on the West Coast and I suspect in the East Coast as well. From the reviews her book is light on content but high in vindictiveness. Pelosi Sees Unrest Among Dems: 'Can We Afford This War?'
Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 00:07:32 in Politics
“We are paying the lowest FIT in our lifetimes, and what did our government do but blow on surplus by giving the wealthy tax breaks they didn't need and paying for two wars by borrowing from the Chinese. A total waste of taxpayer money. We need to let the Bush tax breaks expire and start paying down our deficit. We should escalate getting out of Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush should fire his Treasury Secretary who is just a shill for Wall Street. In short we need to realign our priorities with what the American people voted for last November - Change. All we are getting are lukewarm versions of former Bush policies and some of the same bad actors like Geithner.”
Pelosi Sees Unrest Among Dems: 'Can We Afford This War?'
Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 00:00:41 in Politics
“The Afghanistan war has turned out to be a real loser - Bush had the chance to end it and just let it atrophy while he went on his Iraq adventure. Now the Afghan people want us out of there. They view us a foreign invaders just like the Brits and the Russians before us. We literally cannot afford this war and pay for all of the initiatives that would make our lives better here at home. Dennis Kuchinich on Chris Matthews today gave a great summary of why we should be bringing our troops home. Our economy has not recovered and we have millions out of work. Obama is going down the wrong track on this one.”

What President Obama Is Reading On Health Care
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 15:57:33 in Politics
“It's kind of pointless. The White House already knows what is in the proposals and knows what they will be prepared to accept and have communicated that to Pelosi and Reid. They aren't operating in a vaccum. If the Republican's hadn't been so obstinate all these years we would have had all of this nonsense behind us by now and our health care costs would be more in line with what others countries pay. This is an issue that should have been dealt with in 1946 and except for the GOP would have been dealt with. After sixty three years you would think we would have gotten a good handle of health care reform.”
Seattlelite replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 16:17:32
“I don't think it was a concern for most Americans until we reached the point people could no longer afford or be guaranteed health insurance. People also weren't connecting the dots for a long time. Took a while for many to realize that the low raise or no raises over the pass few years was a direct connection to the rise in cost for employers providing health care for their employees. So here we are when the boat is ready to sink before our government acts. But if the republicans had they're way we still wouldn't be addressing it.”
Tiger Woods BOOED At Stanford (VIDEO)
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 13:15:10 in Sports
“The irony is that with the generous subsidies provided to families making under 100,000 a year, Stanford is less expensive that going to a U.C. school - Stanford has a huge endowment which lets them be this generous. The fee increases on the UC campuses are out of sight and no wonder the students are protesting. The booing of Tiger Woods was good natured, just part of the Stanford-Cal Big Game rivalry. These are both elitist schools and are ranked academically in the top five in U.S. and difficult to get into.”
Forester replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 13:28:56
“Having a senior in HS and tracking the process with his many classmates, this "under 100,000 is not available to very many qualified "middle class" students. The Stanford endowment has shrunk (like most) by over 1/3 in the past 5 yrs, making college a financial impossibility for many middle class families. We are seeing a very real collapse in the opportunities for middle class advancement in this country, and this is consistent with the policies of the previous 8 years of the Bush administration. You need to go back to 1929 to match the economic disparity in this country today. Meanwhile, students who are priced out of the UC system are overloading the the CSU system which is also reducing capacity due to reduced state budgets. Community colleges are then receiving these record overflows, and they too are cutting offerings for the same reason. And so it goes.

“Agree. I supported both PC and MACs and MACS are built to a high standard for commercial and consumer side whereas that is not the case for Windows-based machines. It caused problems for us since our customers were always complaining that they could buy a PC at their local store cheaper than we sold them to employees and we had to remind them the local store products were of inferior quality. Now that I'm no longer in the workforce I only use Macs and feel the premium is worth it, and I get the HP employee discount. The only PC product I would consider is a high end Sony Vaio multi-media machine which has a lot of Mac like qualities.”

“Watching that hostile crowd heckle that woman made me ashamed to be an American. They don't represent the America I live in. I bet many of people would call themselves "Christians" but they don't have any idea that they could be one of those victims described by this courageous lady who had the guts to get up in front of this crowd and relate her personal tragedy. The comment about her story being an isolated incident is totally stupid. These stories are being recounted thousands of times each year in our emergency rooms as desperate people try to get health care when it is already too late for them. What kind of a selfish country is this, that we would let that happen. No wonder other countries look at us with amusement when we call ourselves the "greatest country on earth". They look at the way we treat each other and they have good reason to be skeptical of that claim.”

US Debt A 'Phantom Menace,' Krugman Argues
Commented Nov 23, 2009 at 14:31:10 in Business
“I agree with Krugman. Our deficit is half of what it was at the end of WWII adjusted for inflation. The only issue is that we are borrowing from the Chinese rather than from our own citizens. Kudos to Wall Street for creating the problem and then throwing cold water on attempts to resolve the problem. U.S. corporations aren't doing much to resolve our recession. They are sitting on hordes of cash and continuing to lay off workers. There is one way to start cutting our deficit: quit this nonsense of continous wars that are sapping the military and consuming huge amounts of cash. Can we really afford to drop another 6 trillion dollars on defense spending over the next ten years while whining about spending 1/6 that amount on health care reform? Let's have a real debate about how this country is spending its money and not making topics like defense spending off limits. And do we really need to throw 5-10 billion a year at Israel when they are relatively speaking in better financial shape than we are. And quit giving Pakistan aid - they hate our guts over there and will never find Osama Bin Laden.”

Chris Matthews Criticizes Obama Using Cheney's "Dithering" Remark (VIDEO)

“Way too much of the three cable networks is devoted to cheaping the news to make it of entertainmnent value to what is a limited audience in the first place. They need to get rid of all the political rethreads like Buchanan, Gingrich, and bring on fresh faces that aren't connected to think tanks. Possibly that's an impossible task. If so it shows the paucity of real political talent in this country.”
