“What "chutzpah" these teabaggers have. Every day they keep making a bigger joke of themselves. Obama's election really brought out of the closet the extreme fringe element in our society. And to think it all started with that nutcake Rick Santelli on CNBC who got pissed off that average American's were getting a handout from the government as opposed to Wall Street. The teabaggers would be rooting for Mr. Potter over George Bailey this Christmas season.”

“This sounds like a stunt to me. Why would a person uproot their lives and move to a foreign country just to avoid paying a tax on a bonus? If that is the case, these individuals are even more greedy than I thought.”

MarionWatts replied on Dec 14, 2009 at 12:20:20

“It's nothing to do with the bonuses. Geesh! The arrogance of some of these commentators are beyond me.

Look ... I live in the UK. I read about this stuff in the papers here every day. You can too. They're all online, but knowing y'all, you probably wouldn't believe them either, as they're not HP in their veracity, you know.

In a nutshell once again: The traders are NOT being taxed on their bonuses. The one-off windfall of 50% is only being levied on the institutions, the banks, themselves, NOT the individuals to whom the bonuses were awarded. In fact, next year, in order to circumvent bonuses, the banks will probably raise these people's salaries proportionately to reflect the bonuses they would have given.

HOWEVER ... Gordon Brown recently stipulated that the highest bracket of earners in Great Britain will now have to pay income tax of 50%. This tranche of people include people like high-earning actors and entertainers, lawyers, scientists, specialist doctors, as well as financiers and entrepreneurs. They are talking about leaving the country to avoid paying half their income in tax.

Probably a lot will come to the States - taxes are significantly lower here; and, no, it doesn't matter that there isn't universal healthcare. These people do not use the National Health here. They pay for private cover.

Please, PLEASE learn to think for yourselves.

“So the public is supposed to leave him alone when he has personal problems but fawn all over him when things are going well? When you are in the public eye, you take the bad with the good. He has had a lot more good than bad and lives a life most of us can only dream about. Being a celebrity does carry certain responsibilities. He has a lot of people tha depend on him including most of the golf establishment. Tiger recognizes this and realizes he screwed up big time.”

“So the media is at fault because he was caught in multiple adulterous affairs that totally embarrassed his wife and other family matters? The media does what it does because Woods stories are what pay their salaries. They report to their corporate masters the same way that Tiger reported to his. Just as Tiger can't change his stripes neither can the media. If there is a criticism of the media it should be the way they built up his image in the first place. This is the way the real world works, not this fantasy island where sports figures are totally faithful to their wifes so they can shill Buicks.”

Add to that all of the adulation given to CEO's that made them into celebrities, and we entered into our 100th iteration of "greed is good". Even today, these same business acolytes paint a picture of America in which we are all capitalists living off our money rather than earning our money the old fashioned way by actually working.”

John Stossel: Peter Jennings Thought

John Stossel: Peter Jennings Thought "I Was Bad For ABC," Wouldn't Look At Me

Commented Dec 07, 2009 at 12:48:27 in Media

“I always thought there was something wrong with Stossel, and wondered how he ever got on ABC much less co-hosted a major weekly program like 20/20. Now I know that he has the Ayn Rand diease, a 19th century view of America as the land of survival of the fittest, and zero compassion for the less well off. Why Ayn Rand is so popular defies logic. She must appeal to some dark part of the human spirit or the part of us that has no spirit. Alan Greenspan was another acolyte of hers and look what carnage he caused in the financial world. These people have scary views. Good riddance to Stossel; he is a perfect fit at Fox Business Channel which has just about zero viewers.”

Ryoki replied on Dec 07, 2009 at 13:56:45

“Has anyone ever heard a Objectivist say " If all the real smart people go on strike, what will I do?"
Every Rand worshiper says the same thing " You'll all be sorry when me and the other smart people stop running the world for you losers!"
A self serving, empty philosophy based on greed and ego.”

ThAnswr replied on Dec 07, 2009 at 13:15:04

“If I may reply to this, the reason why Rand is so popular to many is because the philosophy reinforces their belief in their own superiority. They truly believe they're at the top of the heap through their own genetic genius and the rest of us lowly folk need to genuflect in their direction.

The truth is it's another delusion perpetrated by those who make themselves big by making everyone else small. They can't compete on a level playing field, so they create this vision of themselves as the chosen elite.

As for Stossel and Jennings, Stossel couldn't shine Jennings' shoes and he'll be a perfect fit with the rest of the hacks at Fox.”
