No Brazilian Waxes Necessary: Survey Finds 51 Percent Don't Groom That Hair At All

“If you're mildly interested in personal hygiene search for
electron micrograph of human hair
then perhaps reconsider your opinion.”

jdl51 on Nov 20, 2013 at 10:27:59

“Having hair or not having hair has little to do with hygiene. Not taking care of yourself does. And if it's microscopic stuff you're interested in, hair is not much different than other areas. We're covered in "stuff".

"A study of the area between toes in 100 young adults found 14 different genera of fungi. These include yeasts such as Candida albicans, Rhodotorula rubra, Torulopsis and Trichosporon cutaneum, dermatophytes (skin living fungi) such as Microsporum gypseum, and Trichophyton rubrum and non dermatophyte fungi (opportunistic fungi that can live in skin) such as Rhizopus stolonifer, Trichosporon cutaneum, Fusarium, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, Curvularia, Alternaria alternata, Paecilomyces, Aspergillus flavus and Penicillium species.
A study by the National Human Genome Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, researched the DNA of human skin fungi at 14 different locations on the body. These were the ear canal, between the eyebrows, the back of the head, behind the ear, the heel, toenails, between the toes, forearm, back, groin, nostrils, chest, palm, and the crook of the elbow. The study showed a large fungal diversity across the body, the richest habitat being the heel, which hosts about 80 species of fungi. By way of contrast, there are some 60 species in toenail clippings and 40 between the toes. Other rich areas are the palm, forearm and inside the elbow, with from 18 to 32 species. The head and the trunk hosted between 2 and 10 each."”

“I's not debatable. Markup, gross margin and net profit use one method of calculation in the accounting industry. No retailer uses percent increase to express margins.”

yozampj on Nov 12, 2013 at 10:34:32

“My point is that credible sources disagree with you. You seem to be using markup and margin interchangeably, but the calculations are different. Markup is calculated by the HP 12C in the same way the author of the article calculated it.”

“Mark up is calculated by taking retail minus cost
divided by retail. So the iPad mark up is 45.09 percent.

It is not the same calculation as percent increase.

From 2 to 3 is a 50% increase but
$2 cost sold at $3 is a 33% markup

HP: Correct the article or pull it.”

yozampj on Nov 12, 2013 at 09:41:41

“There are a number of sources that disagree with you (see links below). From an accounting standpoint, a company can choose to calculate markup as the article does or as you do as long as it stays consistent in using the method.
The HP 12C calculator uses the same method as the article.

“Percentage of markup and percent increase are not the same calculation.

Retail minus
Cost
Divided by retail
yields percent markup.

Hence, 499 retail minus 247 cost is 242. Divide 252 by retail 499 equals 0.505. Move the decimal two to the right and read 50.5% markup.

Buy it for $2 and sell for $3 equals 33% markup.

However, from 2 to 4 is a 100% increase.
2 to 3 is a 50% increase.

Apple's retail mark up is not excessive by any retail standard.”

“As a rule, it's pretty much a bad idea to salt anything prior to serving, unless it's a recipe (like a dough). Things like soup can be so variable with salt content, it's best to test it after it's finished. Although poultry seems to do better if you inject it with brine, because the salt breaks up meats and makes them more tender.”

“A comment from another reader:

"The Senate Continuing Resolution funds the government in the coming weeks at a level of $988 billion. The Democrats wanted $1.058 trillion. But they passed a bill at Republican levels. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said late last week: “My caucus really didn’t like that. We took a real hit…So that’s one of the largest compromises since I’ve been in Congress.”

Now why did they pass a bill at the GOP’s preferred levels? Because, Reid said late last week, he had assurances from Boehner that the House speaker wouldn’t attach demands to the Senate CR if Reid brought it in at $988 billion. So this whole thing started with a significant Democratic compromise. But once the Republicans decided that they were going to use both the shutdown and the debt ceiling to try to defund and/or delay Obamacare, they couldn’t even vote for a bill that gave them a major fiscal victory.”

“Jonathan Gruber, the mastermind behind Romneycare, provides his perspective:

The number of people covered by employer-based health-care plans is dropping by a percentage point a year. The system is falling apart. So you put in a new safety net. That means a few more people are going to come in. If you’re not willing to risk making some things worse, you’re never going to make anything better. My estimate is that 80 percent of the people are not going to feel any change at all, and that 17 percent or so are going to find that things are better, and that about two or three percent will be worse off, and those are the people who benefit from the discriminatory nature of health-insurance at the present time. If health-insurance companies can’t discriminate any more, those people will have to pay a little more. When we decided that people couldn’t discriminate in what they paid black people or women any more, people had to pay more because employers couldn’t discriminate in what they paid black people and women. Was that a bad thing?

The thing that staggers me about the Republican hatred of this law is its abstract quality. They never address the real problem of our massively inefficient private healthcare market, which is a huge burden on the economy. They never address how to help the millions of uninsured adults get the care all human beings need. They regard a Heritage Foundation, free market designed, private”
