While Senators Denounce Medicaid, The Uninsured Turn To Charity

“I believe when states take Medicaid and give it an acronym they essentially cherry pick what they want to match funds for in their state.
Medicaid is a federal matching funds program and I believe Texas chooses to take the whole enchilada. Here's a state gov. page that may help decipher it.

While we have Republican Governor Fruit Loops rebel rousing the base yelling the "S" word there is no denying that the Federal Government has a HUGE HUGE impact financially on the state of Texas and survival without it would be tenuous at best.”

Apparently money is not the aphrodisiac it's made out to be...YET charity is a tremendous endorphin booster!”

“For quite a few years after my daughters injury family BEGGED us to come back to Tennessee but after calling the Tennessee Brain Injury Foundation in Nashville they told us to STAY in Texas.
They said Tennessee was darn near the bottom in support for the disabled...they had a system that funneled ALL disabled folks regardless of age or condition into nursing homes.
Seems a few of their Senators had family ties in the nursing home/long term care industry.”

“My 30 year old daughter is on 100% MEDICAID. After an injury that left her mute and paralyzed at age 14. She was denied denied denied every benefit on her fathers private insurance policy as "maintenance". True she was NOT going to ever walk again or be a wage earner. But she was/is alive and totally comprehended/s what was/is going on.
After her father changed jobs at 17 she was approved for orthopaedic surgery and the MD and hospital were left without a dime when they renigged on the approval and refused to pay. Two years later when she was 19 his new insurance company refused to insure her at all...the popular "pre existing condition" and she was now over 18 and not attending college.
Medicaid had been a backup since her injury and subsequent qualification for SSI. At 19 she became 100% Medicaid..she can never have Medicare benefits unless I or her father should die....as her injury occurred before she was a wage earner.
MEDICAID has been wonderful. She has qualified for many programs here in Texas that help us out tremendously. It took us awhile to find MD's willing to accept Medicaid but once we did and developed a relationship with the staff I haven't had a moments worry that she will not be taken care of. There are many things it won't pay for but Medicaid or no insurance??? I'll take Medicaid.”

“That is a very nice idea. My son works at Applebees and they are closed Thanksgiving day and I think Christmas Day to allow employees to be with their families. I think it is important for families to be together on those days. My husband will work at a department store Thanksgiving Night. We will eat early so he can rest because he works nights. I wanted to go visit my family who we haven't seen in over 3 yrs but he couldn't get off. He never has been off during the holidays. I think at least Thanksgiving and Christmas Day everyone should be with their loved ones. Surely this country can stop shopping for 2 days.”

“Take one fresh or completely thawed turkey (10-12lbs) rinsed patted dry, salt, pepper and poultry seasoning inside and out. Place in the crockpot breast up , brush with olive oil and add 1 C chicken stock.
I then put foil ...shiny side down but NOT touching the turkey... over the crockpot top and then put the lid on. I use a 6 qt oval crockpot placed on a metal baking sheet. I have never programmed my crockpot I manually set it on high the first 2 hours then it on low then last 8 hours...I start my turkey at 10 pm the night before. I like it out of the way,
I believe (I'm guessing here) the foil creates a higher heat on the top ( crockpots traditionally cook through the sidewalls where the elements are) .
That higher heat and olive oil cause the turkey skin to brown and crisp.
Buona Fortuna!”

“I guess it was 5 years ago my old oven went out 3 days before Thanksgiving so I drug out my old Crockpot and prayed the turkey breast would fit... it barely did.
It turned out great and I've never looked back.
My son never liked turkey until that Thanksgiving and he couldn't get enough.
Bought a bigger oval one the next year.
I now have a new kitchen that has 3 ovens...2 reg and 1 convection.
They are great but when it comes to Thanksgiving I stayed with my Crockpot
Best, most succulent turkey EVER!
The skin even browns across the top.”

Some procedures are available for a national search- such as cosmetic where a plane trip in exchange for a great surgeon and a great price is worth it.”

Read "The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis.
It's not a literary gem it's just the amazing story of Michael Oher
The movie based on the 2006 book by Michael Lewis is coming out Thanksgiving weekend.
I had heard about the book and Oher from family and friends back in Memphis.
The book is a great weekend read and if the movie is half as moving as the book they've got another "Brian's Song".”
