Media Fail: Kimberly Munley Did Not Bring Down Fort Hood Killer

Commented Nov 13, 2009 at 13:22:32 in Media

“II don't think this was blatantly racist or biased in overlooking Sgt, Todd. I do think it's the military predisposition to frame every story with a good guy hero end is just symptomatic of their need and desire to have morale boosters in any event. They run with a story and never walk it back until the press checks them on it. Props to Sgt Todd for stopping the suspect and , and also Sgt Munley for facing the danger also.”

She's no hero, she took credit for something she did not do.”

The Terrible Price of Being Tagged a Reverse Racist

Commented Jun 08, 2009 at 17:58:59 in Politics

“Nice article Mr Hutchinson. The bigots cloaking themselves as conseravatives have used this term "Reverse Racist", promoted so successfully through talk radio. IMHO the Affirnmative Action fight in the 80's is what gave Conservative talk radio it's foot hold.

Projecting and assigining the process and techniques of White Hate Groups like the KKK, Nazi's , Birchers to Black Power Movement groups was effective. Old Images of the Black Panthers, 80's Police Brutality protests by the Rainbow Coalition or Rev. Al Sharpton and inexcusable comments by the nation Of Islam leader Farrakhan cemented this fear. Yet none of these Black Power / Equal Justice groups were ever intended for racial intimidation let alone violence created by the White Hate Groups.

The corporate power establishment still mainly controlled by White males fear someone not like them in halls of power. A female Latina is not like them, and probably not likely to interpret all facts in the same way. Hence prejudging Justice Sotomayor as a "Reverse Racist or Racialist (WTF?) is just another technique to marhinalize the nominee. It won't work, but we have got to hit the internet blogs hard this summer, and talk down the nonsense that will be spewed by National Review, Townhall, RedState, Newsmax, Fox and the rest. Get on the talk radio if you can.”

“Nice points Cenk. The Young Turks are great. Cenk and team need far more play on TV / Radio. Lets' see them get booked on Bill Maher, DL Hughley, etc. We need some of these witty voices to call in on the Right Wing Talk shows and send their blog entries to the Right Wing blogs.

I am disappointed in Pres.-Elect Obama inviting Rick Warren to offer the invocation. Rick Warren is no apolitical minister like Billy Graham, or even Franklin Graham. Note that Rick in a metaphoric sense is the tie to Bush crowd and the past, with the idea I think to bring them along to the future. It's a symbolic gesture to reach out to those we don't agree with. He is anointed by the press with far more evangelical influence than he has.

At the same time I understand the LGBT frustration, they are only highlighting and elevating the status of Rick Warren by this great protest. They forget the the esteemed rev. Joseph Lowery will be providing the Benediction which is the last word, the word to the future.

Nice points Cenk. Happy Holidays.”

“Right on point Bob. Well said.

I will just add, that I the point of adding Michelle Obama in the depiction takes it to far for me. I get it, but that has unintended consequences, as I feel many progressives even have that view of her. Portraying her as the gun toting angry Black women radical is a bit much.

Michelle Obama is the antithesis of that depiction, she is proof of hard-work, family values and American ideals. The picture of the American working mom.

And yeah she is finally "Really" Proud of her country, because Americans are turning out to vote in record numbers for an inspiring Presidential candidate who happens to be a Black Man, and better yet her husband. That's progress to be really proud of.”

“I got the satire, though I was uncomfortable with the image a Michelle Obama included. That is touching some nerves. That picture caricature of Michelle feeds the subconscious of some heavy stereotyping that I think many progressives probably feel. It's hard enough on the candidate, it's not proper or fair to include Sen. Obama's wife in that cover.”

“Beware of the trolls who are trying to stir dissent and ill wil.

The goal for the Republicans now is to do anything to sap the energy, drive and enthusiasm for the Democrats. That's the only way they can keep this close. So operation chaos as it were will be to stir up dissatisfaction. They have tried the tact with trying to fan the flames of Hillary camp disapointment in her losing the nomination. They are trying it by subtly attacking Obama's seeming move to the center, like on FISA.

Yes there are some concerns but be wary of those who are so flabergasted by this move to the center. It's GE time, you don't get to show a new kind of politics unless you get elected. That being said I though Sen. O's back down from Wes Clark's statement a little wimpy. I also do hope he straightens out his FISA position.

I was not one in favor of individual civil suits against the phone companies. That would have been a huge cluster f**k and waste of time an money. What Bush has done is done, going forward we need to make sure the FISA courts are always involved and that oversight is maintianed. You can scream Civil Liberties and Constitution all you want., but unless you were spied on, renditioned and went to jail what is the point. This shouldn't be our hill to die on.”

Stop worrying about the hardcore Clinton types. This overcompensating for Blue Dogs or Conservative Democrats is not going to help you raise the money and have the energy of the young and progressive to put you over the top. The rebuke of Wes Clarks statements pissed me off. This has got to stop. . The young enthused voters are going to come out to vote unless you give them a reason to not be enthused.

I was a bit afraid of this lull and the push to the center whch dulls the energy and lifeblood of this movement away from progressive and towards conservatism. I hope it stops soon.”

Commented Jun 30, 2008 at 14:30:28 in Politics

“Gen. Clark's comments might be inartful in that they were blunt maybe, but inaccurate no.

McCain has been getting this pass, in that just because he served in the past, he knows best about how to govern the military of today. He has had no war time command authority, this is key only in the fact that the Reprobates like to Nitpick also. .

What is more important though is that McCain has not been a champion of veterans rights or benefits. He didn't use his "Considerable" Military experience and Senate Armed Forces Cabinet position to question the President in the run up to the war nor use his weight in the Senate to utilize in his branch of government to aide or guide the president in prosecuting the war. He has done virtually nothing on his own to help steer the administration from the terrible blunders. Ok well he got up and yelled a few times, and has talked about the surge.

For all his supposed influence in the Senate, the guy was no Jack Murtha or Chuck Hagel, so he hadn't done that much.

McCain is 4 more years and 400+ soldiers perished and thousands more injured. McBush - more of
he same.

The King of Silver Spoon King makers, Rove knows Arrogance. - an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions. Can you say Iraq

Here is the guy the night of the 2006 elections on NPR downplaying the potential Republican doom, saying "You are entitled to your math, but I have "The Math". Couldn't quite steal those elections huh Karl.
