“Serious error in judgement on the part of the police officer speeding in the right lane without emergency lights, and apparently no emergency either. Presumably, the reason why he was speeding will eventually be known. Accident risk goes up at high speed and at night. I'm trying not to label cops or anyone else. There is too much idolizing and demonizing of people and that gets us no where. It's the choices that we as humans are call capable of that need to be called out and either condemned or praised. This one horrendous incident may destroy the cop's career, but does not define him - just as any courage and commendable actions he previously took as an officer don't. They co-exist and are hard to reconcile. Having said that, I hope the families of the victims get justice.”

“Candy Crowley has been my favorite journalist on TV since I first became aware of her a few years ago. She is indeed a straight-up news reporter and I don't care what her own politics are. We need more like her. When all we have is opinion of newsmakers and opinion of news celebrities and baloon-boy stories and continued obsession with Sara Palin, we are not getting the information that people need to know - which is what news really is. So, I wish this reporter continued good health and a long career because we need her and more journalists liker her.”

Based on personal observation, I'd say one raised by right-wingers and/or who's opinion of black people is based on inner-city blacks. They resent "their sense of entitlemen­t." Local communities reinforce local mindsets .”

“Genetics + lifestyle + environment = risks. Hmm. Sounds reasonable, but the environment piece, represented in the discussion by "place" is dependent on information about air, water and other pollutants when the person lived there. If that's not easily incorporated, a doc in Sacramento ain't gonna go looking for what the environment was like in your little neighborhood in 1965, no know what was in the water you played around in down by the abandoned railway swamp.

“Obama's trip to secure Chicago was a misstep. A). That Chicago is known for it's youth violence more than anything else right now was lost on the White House; B). Despite the economic benefits, the risk of losing the bid was too high politically, especially at a time when it looks like the PUBLIC OPTION is slipping away from health care reform. Chicago got the LEAST number of votes. The IOC doesn't like politicians throwing their weight around I guess. I want to see Obama win at HEALTH CARE and secure the public option; instead we, and the world, see him lose big time. Get rid of Rahm Emanuel.”

“He's not an elected official and does not profess to be an example of moral standards; he's a stand-up comic with a late night TV show. I applaud him for just coming out and saying, "Yep - I had sex with women on the show" and nabbing the extortionist. Of course, the media will be ALL over this, pulling it this way and that trying to bring out more juicy tid-bits. As long as the sex was consensual and the women were all adults at the time, who cares?”

“I'm a Democrat who voted for Obama and want him to succeed. I think, generally, that the Olympics would be good economically for the country. But as a former Chicago resident I have to say that Chicago does not deserve the Olympics. The leadership there has failed to stem the tide of violence for years and years and Chicagoans have re-elected the same people year after year. I love the architecture, Millennium Park, the Crown Fountain and the many other lovely aspects of the city that draw tourists in the summer. I like the new red and brown line platforms. But the traffic is still AWFUL on the expressways and who wants to celebrate in a city where teen gun violence account for so much violence - more than Los Angeles, a much bigger city. Chicago condo development exploded in the 90's and early 2000's. Lots all over the city that formerly held single family homes turned into multi-story condos. So, where did all that NEW tax revenue go? Or rather, who did it go TOO?”
