“That's a long wish-list Pantleg, but a good one. We truly need a big change to return power to the people. I don't know the answer, but I do think greed is killing our nation and partisanship is helping.”

“Genetics + lifestyle + environment = risks. Hmm. Sounds reasonable, but the environment piece, represented in the discussion by "place" is dependent on information about air, water and other pollutants when the person lived there. If that's not easily incorporated, a doc in Sacramento ain't gonna go looking for what the environment was like in your little neighborhood in 1965, no know what was in the water you played around in down by the abandoned railway swamp.

New Rule: Smart President ≠ Smart Country

“Excellent post, Bill. Republicans want states to control education so they can keep their constituents stupid and uninformed. These people do not want to believe that the true promise of America belongs to everyone and is color blind. To the corporations that pull the strings of congress, Americans need to be kept dumb, paid cheap and continually producing new consumers (no abortions!) and to keep buying cheap products made overseas or by imported illegal aliens. What is Democracy when a small handful of companies control our energy, control our food supply and distribution and control our banks? What is Democracy when these companies funnel money to our elected officials via lobbyists in order to buy votes that favor their profits rather than what is best for all Americans? What is our Democracy when members of one party deliberately shut down any opportunity for discussion at an open town hall meeting, shutting out dissenting opinion and everyone's right to ask questions of their elected officials?”

“Hey Roland,
I thought this was a sharp commentary too. If Karl La Fong thinks there are better ones, he should suggest more reading links rather than be snide and insulting. My partner and I have been together for 16 years. We've done the legal remediation things for health care, wills, etc. For us, we could care less about the government or other body sanctifying our union.”
